I saw a similarly offensive one about stepmothers something about them being even better than normal mothers because they chose to love you when they didn't have to? Confused Will try and find it.

Skarossinkplunger · 29/04/2018 13:21

I can’t bear possessiveness over children. So much for “it takes a village”. A child is a human being, not an object to be coveted. Children benefit massively from spending time with adults who love and cherish them. Without both sets of grandparents parents would have found it impossible, as they both worked shifts. I spent so much time with them and as a result I was close to all of them.

Here is the step mother one.

Can you imagine if a Dad posted "dad's are mums with a cherry on top!"

LokiBear · 29/04/2018 13:22

I hate all memes. My grandmother and mil would share that one. I'd roll my eyes a d think 'twat'.

LinoleumBlownapart · 29/04/2018 13:22

I don't get annoyed by this, my kids love being at both my mum's and my mother in laws, although this is mostly related to their stomachs. It doesn't mean they're better than me, it just means they can invest more time and fun in their grandchildren and give me a break, it's good to know my kids have other people that love them and can do things that I can't. I'm not superwoman.

If she's a good grandma then what's wrong with her blowing her trumpet and enjoying grandmahood?

GoldenMcOldie · 29/04/2018 13:23

I think you have too much time on your hands. Why do you even care?

Midge1978 · 29/04/2018 13:23

Oh Hidemee that's hideous! Shock

dated1988 · 29/04/2018 13:25

The step mum was truly hideous. And I say that as a struggling step mum

HideMee · 29/04/2018 13:25

Yeah I know- so offensive isn't it. I agree with you about the grandma one too they are always wanting to overstate their role. They've had their turn as mothers it's not fair to tread all over those who have kids of their own now.

Midge1978 · 29/04/2018 13:25

Linoleum it's the implication that she's somehow better than the mother! Grandparents who help are worth their weight in gold but they should never brag about it or make out they're like the mother only a bit better!

OP posts:
paranoidpammywhammy2 · 29/04/2018 13:30

I think everyone's views depends very much on their own individual relationships with the child's step parents and grandparents.

If you've had experiences of grandparents that try to take over a mums role and dictate how they think 'their' grandchildren should be raised then it's going to be annoying.

If you've had wonderful parents and grandparents you're not going to let it bother you much. Or think, What would we do without them, etc.

lavendargreen · 29/04/2018 13:35

@midge1978

Not undermining the importance of grandparents, I just find it irritating when they share twee tripe like this to make themselves sound wonderful. Especially when they imply they're somehow better than the parents who have the daily slog of actually looking after their children!

Agree.

If someone's parents come out with wanky shit like the 'meme' in your OP, they should say 'shame you couldn't be arsed to be such amazing parents to me.' 🙄

That'll shut them up, and hopefully stop the horrendous narcissistic memes where they're blowing their own trumpet.

I think many grandparents are fab, but I wouldn't be impressed if my mother put this on FB or twitter. It's basically saying grandparents are better than parents.

No-one is bashing grandparents by saying this; that is what it is - them saying they are better than the parents. Don't deny it, and at least admit it.

The 'stepmother' one is grim as fuck BTW. Hmm

lavendargreen · 29/04/2018 13:38

Yep. This ^.

Some mothers feel like useless failures sometimes anyway; they don't need granny shoving her oar in trying to make out she is a better 'mother' to the grandkids, and posting daft wanky memes telling everyone else she is too.

What is she trying to prove, posting this garbage? Confused

ScreamingValenta · 29/04/2018 13:39

I generally dislike things that suggest grandmothers are more 'special' in some ways than mothers who don't become grandmothers. It all contributes to the insidious shaming of women who don't, or can't, have children. Fortunately, my mum and lovely MIL would be the last people to try to make me feel guilty - not so another member of DH's family, who harangued me for not 'making Auntie Lynne a granny'.

hudyerwheesht · 29/04/2018 13:47

Couldn't agree more OP, my MIL's insistence of posting memes just like that on an almost daily basis is the reason I blocked her from my newsfeed.
I'm eternally grateful for both her help and being part of my DC's lives but I don't see the need to brag about it to make herself feel special for all the reasons already mentioned plus I do wonder if she's considered other women her age that may be desperate for grandkids but don't have any - kinds of rubs their nose in it, imo. But then that's Facebook for you.

boobsradley · 29/04/2018 13:48

Oh, I can’t stand these. My MIL often posts memes of children stropping off with suitcases and something like “I’m off to grandma’s!”. They live in another country, ours are their only grandchildren and they’re 5 and 1. Do fuck off. She’s lovely apart from this. I’m relieved my own mother is not on social media for this very reason though.
