To be angry at my neighbour

I live in a flat, and this morning I was woken up at 9am by a neighbour using a loud drill.

I woke up at 6am and went back to sleep, so the wake up has left me feeling grouchy and awful all day, with a pounding headache to boot.

AIBU to be pissed off about this loud wake up call on a Saturday morning?

9.00 am? Are you serious?

50shadesofgreyismylaundry · 28/04/2018 16:56

9am is a perfectly reasonable time to make noise.

SmilingButClueless · 28/04/2018 16:57

9am is perfectly fine - I thought you were going to say that they were using the drill at 6am.

KnittedBobbleHat · 28/04/2018 16:57

9am is an ok time to start DIY

pasturesgreen · 28/04/2018 16:58

It was 9am. Nuff said. YABU.

MadMags · 28/04/2018 16:58

9, or 6?! Confused

mumeeee · 28/04/2018 16:58

I wouldn't be happy to be woken up to loud.drilling at 9am on a Saturday..

Zeezee7 · 28/04/2018 17:00

To clarify, I don’t think think 9am is too early during the week, but this is a Saturday morning Confused I’m always mindful not to make noise too early on weekends

YABU, 9am is fine to start DIY. I'm guessing you don't have young kids? Otherwise I'll bet you would have been up at 6am anyway Grin

BMW6 · 28/04/2018 17:03

Perfectly reasonable time to start drilling even on a Saturday OP.

TheRagingGirl · 28/04/2018 17:11

9am isn't early on any day of the week.

BigSandyBalls2015 · 28/04/2018 17:12

Why would waking up at 9am make you feel so awful?

Most councils regulations regarding building works state 8am for weekdays and 9am for Saturdays so YABU.

jamoncrumpets · 28/04/2018 17:18

9am on a Sat is a perfectly reasonable time to start drilling. YABU.

Sweetpotatoaddict · 28/04/2018 17:20

9am not too early. The 0740 wake up I received from the council grass cutters was.

FootnerFace · 28/04/2018 17:20

My rules:
8am mon to fri
9am sat
10am sunday or none preferably.

happypoobum · 28/04/2018 17:21

9AM????!!!! YABU

If getting up at that time leaves you with a headache and feeling grouchy all day, and assuming you didn't go to bed at 4am after a skinful of drink and drugs, you should probably see your GP.

Tiredmum100 · 28/04/2018 17:21

If I was woken up at 9 am I would firstly run into my dc rooms to check they had not been kidnapped, then once I knew they were safe would be doing a happy dance at the extremely long sleep in I'd have had!

Zeezee7 · 28/04/2018 17:24

The reason I feel headachy is because I’d already woken up and was woken up again by the noise. I’m not sure about the science of it, but going back to sleep after waking up usually makes people feel more tired (something to do with R.E.M.?) So it’s partly my fault, but being woken up in that way was unpleasant and the noise went on for quite a while

bettytaghetti · 28/04/2018 17:28

How the hell were they supposed to know you woke up earlier?

feathermucker · 28/04/2018 17:28

They might work all week and weekends are the only time they can do this.

If they need to drill a hole, that inevitably will mean noise.

9am is fine.

jamoncrumpets · 28/04/2018 17:30

I was woken up at 6 this morning. It was DS playing on a drum in his room. I didn't go back to sleep. My head is fine. I'm also heavily pregnant.

jamoncrumpets · 28/04/2018 17:31

In fact I woke up at 1, 3 and 6. The previous two times were for a wee.

persypear · 28/04/2018 17:31

I think its nicer to wait until 10am on a weekend for really noisy things like drilling and lawnmowing. Lots of people really need a good lie in for all sorts of reasons.

Definitely, definitely not before 10am on a Sunday.
