To lick the bowl myself?

Teen dd has a friend over. They're not interested in baking today, though quite happy to enjoy the results. That's not a problem, I'm happy to bake for them (trying out my new gadget that allows you to bake multicolour cakes). Only, I was so engrossed in getting the cake just right, that I scraped the mixing bowls out properly. I forgot to leave scrapings!

Rather than risk appearing stingy with my scrapings, I licked the bowls and beaters myself.

WIBU?

YANBU. You only get to lick the bowl if you help with the baking Wink

JellySlice · 28/04/2018 16:07

Here, you only get to lick the bowl if you do the washing up!

Which I have had to do myself.

Sounds perfectly fair Smile

Seems reasonable to me!

Scraping out the bowl, and licking the spoon and beaters is my favourite bit about baking - especially baking the Christmas cake - I soak the dried fruit in brandy for a few weeks before it goes in, and that plus the butter and brown sugar and the spices makes the christmas cake batter scrapings the BEST!!

PerfectlySymmetricalButtocks · 28/04/2018 16:53

YANBU at all! Although YABU not to leave any for me! 😠

Vitalogy · 28/04/2018 17:16

Sounds perfectly reasonable to me. Now what's this multi coloured cake making gadget. Cake

BalloonFlowers · 28/04/2018 17:29

Chef's privilege to lick the bowls.
Tell me more about the multicoloured cake gadget!

JellySlice · 28/04/2018 18:28

This.

I've made two layers of chocolate and vanilla.

It was meant to be a trial run for dh's birthday cake, but ingrate teens went out to Costa and didn't bring me back anything, so, tough - they don't get any. I'll use it for the actual cake.

Haven't decided yet whether to use white chocolate buttercream or regular chocolate buttercream to sandwich and cover them. Or maybe one for the inside and the other for the outside...

Vanilla buttercream inside, with chocolate outside.
That divider is on my Amazon wishlist for summer shopping!

MyGastIsFlabbered · 28/04/2018 20:14

I want that cake divider. But cake mix is way nicer then cake itself, how could you not leave scrapings?

SomeoneAteMyStrudel · 28/04/2018 20:39

I licked the spoon and the bowl today when making cornflake cakes and I think my pancreas hates me.

Bambamber · 28/04/2018 20:47

I miss licking the bowl Sad since having my DD we have to do vegan baking (multiple allergies) and we're avoiding using refined sugar for now. Uncooked vegan, no added sugar cake mix doesn't taste nice Envy

JellySlice · 03/05/2018 20:53

White chocolate buttercream filling, Tia Maria chocolate truffle coating (rather a grand name for add-a-bit-of-this-and-little-of-that-and-some-more-of-the-other-and-oh-my-that's-good!).

Lesson learned: may be better to grease the tin, rather than line it. When I tried to lift out the divider, the cake mi x stuck to it, and the lining stuck to the cake mix, and it all lifted up together. I think that's why the section edges aren't straight.
