Why do posters always say I didn't want to read and run?

And then reply to the original post? Surely the OP would be none the wiser if they read and post and didn't respond. Seems a bit odd to me.

Usually to show support, or if a thread hasn't been replied to yet and the Op is looking for help.

It's reassuring for the OP to know people have seen the thread even if the reader hasn't time to do a long reply.

WishUponAStar88 · 28/04/2018 08:20

By responding they bump the thread in active posts so that soneone that can help might see it and respond. It’s also often a response to something emotional so it shows support “I haven’t been in the situation but didn’t want to read and run, I hope it all works out for you” or something similar.

Not sure really, someone more knowledgeable will be along in a minute I’m sure, but didn’t want to read and run..

Lostforagoodname · 28/04/2018 08:21

It sends it to the top of the list again. And you can see how many people have read your thread (I think?) and it might be a bit disheartening if no one has replied

I think it’s a nice thing to do

Ah right, I just wondered - I had no idea why people kept saying it.

Isn't it more from other forums where you used to see a post count and a views count? So the OP would have one reply and 100 views, people would kindly back their viewing up with I don't want to read and run but can't advise or hope all goes well type thing?

Why people say it then answer the OP is a bit confusing though

FlapAttack23 · 28/04/2018 08:32

Often if not much time to write a proper reply or not able to offer much help but wanted to send a quick supportive message

qazxc · 28/04/2018 08:35

To show support and keep it bumped up in active conversations meaning that it is more likely to be read by someone that does have advice.
