Ds's teeth going grey!

I am freaking out a little bit as I have been googling like crazy. ds 3 fell a few weeks ago and bashed his front teeth. It bled a little but they didn't feel loose so we thought they would be ok. But now they are both turning grey! I am freaking out a little bit! Pleas share your positive stories where this all turned out ok! I really don't want him to lose his teeth so young. He already has issues eating and speech issues. Aibu to be so freaked! I feel sick thinking about my poor baby with no front teeth!

You'd need to see the dentist ASAP, I hit my teeth as a teenager, so adult teeth, they went grey and then black, the root and nerve was basically dead

DS teeth went grey after her fell on them, this was about 18 months ago and they’re fine now. Dentist told me the grey was like a bruise.

My now 14 yr old son bashed his front tooth when he was 3. It turned grey and remained grey until he lost it several years later. So it's bad news if it goes grey, sorry. But the positive things is, when his adult tooth finally came down it was nice and white.
This made me so protective of my second child so she never bumped her teeth as I didn't want a second grey toothed child. It doesn't fade, it gets darker and darker and then it only goes away once your child looses his tooth.

My son fell on his front teeth, one chipped and two others were wobbly. I took him to the dentist who told me that they might go grey if the tooth has died and that it would take a week or so. They are still milk teeth so it's hopefully ok - he said the tooth would have to have been pushed up quite hard to cause damage to the growing adult tooth. But it is possible. He said there was no way of knowing until that tooth grows down. I also had to check for redness in case of any abscesses.
After about two weeks one tooth started to go grey. I do notice it, especially in photos

Similar thing happened to my girl when she was 2.5 her front teeth both went grey. We saw a dentist who said teeth can bruise and the bruising makes the teeth grey and to be patient.

It took about a month, but both her teeth returned to bright white. Try not to worry too much x

loads of kids have those teeth removed at three because they are rotton. even if they do have to come out it won't affect him very much please don't panic x

midnightmisssuki · 27/04/2018 20:21

my daughter fell last year when she was 3 - one of her tooth actually popped forward a bit - in my panic, i pushed it back in and took her to dentist - she's cracked both her front teeth but they seemed to have stayed put, i was so worried too. Dentist said either would go grey or black, if black then bring her back, might have to see about pulling it out. It didnt go great or black and has pretty much re-hardened in its same place. Bring your son to the dentist to see if any damage done to adult teeth. Good luck.

www.oralanswers.com/dark-tooth/

This has a lot of good info. It also confirms that if the teeth go grey they can, and do often go white again in time.

altiara · 27/04/2018 20:23

My son bashed his when he was 3 - both top front teeth. They went grey, dentist checked them and said these teeth would stay grey as blood supply was damaged but he’d be fine for adult teeth growing in. And his adult teeth are fine a few years later.
So don’t worry, but get him checked by the dentist. And when DS gets to school, seriously you’ll find lots of boys with grey front teeth! (At least I did)

shuggas · 27/04/2018 20:35

Don't panic, my Dd did the same, chipped her tooth as well, it does at the root and didn't come out when grown up tooth came, her adult tooth came through above it so it got pulled out, beautiful white tooth, was wonky and all sorts but straightened itself and no problems now, see your dentist, they can be very reassuring x

TheDishRanAwayWithTheSpoon · 27/04/2018 20:38

Don't panic op! The most Important thing is to visit a dentist, you will want to check there is no fractures in the tooth or no damage to the underlying teeth.

Discolouration doesn't mean he will lose the tooth, lots of teeth go grey after trauma. It could just be bruising and it might fade, if it's not hurting him then it will probably at most just need the dentist to keep an eye on it.

Even if worst comes to worst and he has to have them out, he will get his adult ones at 7, they are just baby teeth, he will have no problems eating etc. Lots of children are missing front teeth and they are fine.

My DD had a grey tooth after a mishap in Reception where she fell and knocked it. We went to the dentist straight away and her advice was to leave it be but make an appointment if she complained of pain at any point, she didn't. It fell out yesterday 18 months after the accident and her new grown up tooth underneath looks beautifully white from what we can see of it.

CaviarAndCigarettes · 27/04/2018 20:45

My dd has a grey tooth from a bang. It also chipped the tooth. It was a bruise and faded

Homemenu1 · 27/04/2018 20:45

Ds’s did the sane after nearly knocking them out, the dentist pushed them back into place.
I’ve tine they went white again.

Don’t worry to much

hardtoplease · 27/04/2018 20:46

By DS3 do you mean three years old or third child? First teeth?

Glitterheart · 27/04/2018 20:49

My Dd did the same at 2.5, knocked both top front teeth and they went grey. After a few weeks they started to whiten up again and now you would only notice a slightly different shade if you were looking really carefully xx

nawnee2 · 27/04/2018 20:49

Yes 3years old. Thank you for all your comments. Makes me feel better. Going to take him to the dentist ASAP
