Is this an acceptable baby shower present?

Posting for traffic really, but worried this baby shower present could be 'crossing a line'?! (Quite possibly I'm overthinking Smile)

My best friend is 33 weeks and is having her baby shower on Sunday. I had DS 7 months ago and a few weeks ago she messaged and asked for advice on what to pack for a hospital bag. I told her what I used/what I thought were essential.

Just chatting to DM and she said for her present why not 'give' her a hospital bag? I know she's probably already got one packed but things like, a new dressing gown and slippers, some water spray mist stuff, a couple of newborn nappies, maybe nipple and maternity pads and some bottles of water etc etc?! Just the things I found were essential!

Thought it's a change for the usual baby shower presents and she brought me really thoughtful/practical things for mine! TIA!

I think that's a lovely present. She can always chop and change what she wants to use and doesn't and lets be honest, how handy would a spare dressing gown be when your covered in spit up and behind on the washing.

@DollyLlama ah yes you're probably right there. Plus can you ever have enough dressing gowns?!Grin thank you!

You sound like a lovely friend. I'd have been thrilled with something like this.

bassackwards · 27/04/2018 10:19

It's a lovely idea and I'm sure she'll really appreciate it.

Blackbinsack · 27/04/2018 10:20

I’m stealing this idea

I bought someone some lanisoh for their hospital bag. A lot of people looked at me funny, but it was a godsend as they used it to breast feed. (Also you can use it up as a nappy cream)

It's a great idea. A very good friend of mine gave birth 8 weeks before me. Her gift at my baby shower was a bag of 'essentials' for labour and the early post-birth days. I was touched by the thought, and even my mum said she wouldn't have thought of things like that.

I did this for my best friend. She loved it, i've copied the explanation letter i put in with it below for inspiration.

The midwives were wholly impressed by all accounts too!

I’ve put together a bag of essentials (and some treats too) that you can keep in the car and send xxxxx off to get when the main event is over. Inside the bag you’ll find…

A black towel- for your first shower - you can throw it away afterwards
A flannel - for your face silly
A bag with mini pots for your own toiletries - to remind you of home
A mirror, hairbrush, hairbands, and some deodorant so you can keep yourself looking like yourself!
Huge black knickers (5 pairs!)- to hold the massive heavy duty maternity pads i’ve also put in!
A new nightie - okay so not very stylish but it’s got buttons so you can feed easily and you’ll find yourself with your legs akimbo having your stitches checked a few times so easy access on that front.
A pair of warm socks - to keep your toes warm
A pair of flip flops - so you can brave the communal shower
A dressing gown - to keep you warm
Tea Tree oil - pop some on your giant maternity pads to help soothe grazes and stitches
Arnica tablets - to help speedy healing of your bruised vajayjay
4 Giant Muslins - great as breastfeeding covers, mattress covers, and lots more
Breast pads and more importantly the best nipple cream in the world.
Loose DARK joggers - nice and comfy for when you are up and about
A sports bottle - to keep you hydrated for feeding
Robinsons squash - to hide that yucky old water taste
A bag of snacks - to keep you going, the after birth toast is amazing but you’ll end up with a stale sandwich on the ward.
Some change - for the Vending machine in case you need some sugar!
Tic Tacs - for a quick refresh
Kandoo wipes - because toilet paper is not kind to your stitches
An eye mask - because the ward is never dark, and you’ll need some sleep
A decent plastic bag - for any washing you want to take home not throw out
Pocket tissues- just because

Thank you all so much! Good to know I'm not going to offend!
