Had an emergency GP appointment for my son today- the triage nurse rang us at 10:20 and asked us to bring him in for 11. When we got there I asked how late the gp was running to be prepared (they often run 20ish mins late) to be told that they were running 2 HOURS late.. aibu to think they shouldn't be make appointments for times they clearly can't keep?

Blimey, toofar that's going back a few years, but yes you're right. (Sigh) Those were the days.

I took my son to the GP on one occasion and he was so concerned that he sat with him until the ambulance came. I am eternally grateful because he spotted that ds had sepsis and ds ended up in HDU. At the time I didn't consider that other patients' appointments would be delayed because frankly my only concern was my son.
I do know though that it doesn't take much imagination to work out why a GP might be running late and it's not unreasonable to expect that waiting patients show compassion and understanding in such situations

toofar our GP has open surgery every morning so we can turn up and be seen whenever we need to. We can also book appointments for afternoon surgery if we don't want to sit and wait or if the GP wants to follow up a previous consultation.

I have been fortunate my GP has given me the time when I’ve needed it and overrun the allotted time, I don’t mind having to wait as it shows the doctor is giving patients what they need.

I would just like to be told when i book in that they are running 2 hours late

I dont think that's unreasonable at all

I was one of thise emergencies at the surgery once, so i know that delays can happen and ive no problem with it

The longest ive had to wait was an hour...but that was with three small children so not the greatest experience for the four of us and all the other poor sods waiting

I tried to make an appointment with my surgery yesterday...i can have an appointment at the beginning of june with a dr ive never seen

2 months ago I went to my GP. She was running 45 minutes behind I didn't mind.

I got into her office, and just broke down crying and kept shaking. She couldn't just kick me out after 10 minutes because my time was up as I was still upset and still needed treatment. I was in her office for 30 minutes so she's now 1 hr 10 behind on appointments. She only need another 1-2 patients to need half hour with her for it to get to 2 hours behind. Easily done.

I felt awful for delaying all the other patients but I needed that time as I'd just split with my ExH due to DV and needed treatment for both my injuries and my mental health.

Our GP practice occasionally runs behind but they are also absolutely expert at finding a way to fit in people who need to be seen when they need to be seen. I don’t know how they do it. I must remember to take the reception staff a box of chocolates next time I go in - they work miracles at managing to see toddler DS within a couple of hours and me in in an appropriate timeframe depending on how urgent it is.
