It's a Honeywell radiator. I was freezing Yesterday as I'll so wanted it on, my house is like a H M O. There's no main central heating I can go to to put on or off.

Anyway I put the heat on in my room by twisting the knob and now whatever way I twist I can't make it go off. It doesn't make sense to me it's not like any other radiator I've ever had?

Theres a green lump on the thing you twist as well as the numbers?

Please can somebody help me make it go off the heat is too much I'm feeling so sick. Please help.

I’ve no idea but have you tried googling?

ToadOfSadness · 26/04/2018 11:38

What radiator is it?

When you say there is no boiler you can go to do you mean there is no boiler and it is plugged into a socket?

Oil filled ones tend to unplug from the wall, it sounds as if there is a boiler somewhere in the house which means you have a thermostatic valve and the green knob thing is an eco setting. Google Honeywell thermostatic valve and see if that is what you have. Some of our valves are Honeywell and they are absolute crap, not that it helps you, sorry.

Yes of course. I got a p d f manual which didn't help, got a phone number for customer care but it's only for plumbers not for householders.

Bizarrely it's gone off now thank god. Not sure how but the relief is great.

The manual tells you how to install but not how they work, very unhelpful.

Might be a good idea to try to work it out before you need to use it again though.

Sostupididespairattimes · 26/04/2018 11:45

It's not plugged into a socket as far as I can see? Looks normal like it's just attached via piping to the wall.

There's a boiler in the share kitchen but in a closed in unit. You can't adjust any dials for heating, just your own radiator in the room to put on or off, and we have constant hot water so no need to switch anything on or off.

The knob you twist is probably a thermostat so you can set the temperature at which the rad will turn off. This just stops the flow of hot water through the rad so it will take time to cool down. You might also have a timer on the boiler that means it will come on at certain times.

The green button could be to stop the thermostat at particular setting when you're turning it. Does it push in to allow you to turn the thermostat further?

ToadOfSadness · 26/04/2018 13:02

So it is a boiler and you have a thermostatic valve to control the heat. I have these and they don't seem to work very well, are easily broken.

The green button is called an eco setting (ours are older and are grey) and I discovered these things when ours did what yours is doing, but sadly have not found out how to get it to work as I think they need replacing.

The boiler will be on a timer so your heating will most likely come back on. @PigletJohn might be able to advise how to use the little button and which way to turn the knob if he is about. I would also be interested to know this as I have one radiator that won't turn down and one that won't get hot, in spite of them previously working and balancing the system.

Post a pic of it

PigletJohn · 26/04/2018 13:55

yes, a photo of the whole heater, and of the knobs at each end please.

Is this an MN classic Grin?

ToadOfSadness · 26/04/2018 15:09

If we find out the problem and how to fix it then indeed it should be an MN classic Grin.
