Coughing and snotting lady on the train

Just got the train to work as I'm working in a different location today. I was sat next to a lady on the train who was obviously full of cold; constantly sniffing and coughing without putting her hand over her mouth 😷
I assumed she didn't have a tissue on her, so I offered her a tissue from a packet I had in my handbag and she had a go at me.
Said she couldn't help having a cold and it was hard going to work feeling like crap, and I had no need to make her feel like leper 😳
She then got up and moved away from me tutting as she went.
How bizarre, I thought I was only being helpful. WIBU?

YANBU. You were being nice offering her the tissue. I've been in Snotty Woman's position and really appreciated it when I was offered a tissue. Plus it's not just about her, it's about other people in the carriage who she may have been infecting if she was actually sneezing or coughing.

Don't worry about it, OP. You did the right thing, but she had other things going on and snapped at you. I'd rather sit next to you than her on a train!

@Feelings how could I have just moved on a packed commuter train on a seat that had been reserved for me? Why should I because somebody hasn't got the basic manners to cover their mouths whilst coughing? I remind my children of their manners when they fail to cover their mouths, I don't expect an adult to do that. That's all it would have taken.
I wasn't tutting and sighing like the man stood next to her in the aisle. I genuinely offered her a tissue as a kind gesture. If it was out of spite I'd have said something about her coughing all over people.
It's bad manners and quite frankly I don't want her cold. Everybody has them but they don't go around coughing on people and snapping at them. 🙄

Well you know bugs are everywhere maybe you should go dressed in bubble wrap next time. Confused

Greggers2017 · 25/04/2018 21:04

@Feelings yes I do which is why I consider other people and cover my mouth when I cough or sneeze. It's very basic manners

Why on threads like this do people have to come up with loads of excuses and possible life scenarios for the unreasonable person?

She was unreasonable for coughing all over everyone and for being rude.
