Ethical dilemma: I own a stair gate from IKEA which I have just learnt is subject to a recall (from a couple of years back now, but I assume they would still accept it). We bought the stair gate when my eldest started crawling and it saw us safely through two children. We haven't used it for a while now and it is sitting in the garage - it is a solid piece of kit in good nick and I had been meaning to pass it on, either on our local FB selling group or to a friend who needed one. However of course as I see it has been recalled, we won't pass it on. WIBU to take it back to IKEA now and get a refund? DH thinks this is unethical as we have had good use from it so we shouldn't get a refund, and I do see his point. However we presumably shouldn't just leave it out on the street for someone to take if it could be potentially faulty, and even if we go to the hassle of taking it to the household recycling centre someone could take it. I suppose we could physically destroy it by sawing it up. WWYD?
