All about Pruitt

Senate Banking Chair Mike Crapo held 78 campaign-related events at the same lobbyist-owned condo Pruitt rented.

That lobbyist's ex-firm has disclosed work on at least 10 pieces of legislation considered by Crapo's committee since Crapo became chair.

From the Washington Post link about Pruitt:

Scott Pruitt’s breathtaking corruption is part of Paul Ryan’s legacy
www.washingtonpost.com/blogs/right-turn/wp/2018/05/04/scott-pruitts-breathtaking-corruption-is-part-of-paul-ryans-legacy/?utm_term=.ce9a91800c4c

After taking office last year, Pruitt drew up a list of at least a dozen countries he hoped to visit and urged aides to help him find official reasons to travel, according to four people familiar with the matter, who spoke on the condition of anonymity to discuss internal agency deliberations. Pruitt then enlisted well-connected friends and political allies to help make the trips happen. …
[...]
Using your government job to check off travel destinations on your bucket list is just about the swampiest gambit in a long list of Pruitt’s abuses. (“Along with Israel and Australia, Pruitt’s wish list for global travel included Saudi Arabia, Colombia, Panama, Poland, Japan, India and Canada, former staff members said, adding that Pruitt asked staffers to schedule the trips at a pace of roughly one per month.”)

That's an odd holiday bucket list, no? I'd be sniffing that lot for business links (made with an eye on Pruitt's future).

PerkingFaintly · 05/05/2018 13:23

Ahh, should have read the other WaPo link first: Pruitt seems to be using the "government" trips to take along his friends and pimp for their business interests.

cozietoesie · 05/05/2018 14:12

Pruitt is finished. The only reason he hasn't gone already, I think, is that recent 'turnover' has been so high that even 45 might be a tad reluctant to add to it.

One of those Twitter links contains this quote from Sartre, which seems extremely apt today – about more than anti-Semites:

“Never believe that anti-Semites are completely unaware of the absurdity of their replies. They know that their remarks are frivolous, open to challenge. But they are amusing themselves, for it is their adversary who is obliged to use words responsibly, since he believes in words. The anti-Semites have the right to play. They even like to play with discourse for, by giving ridiculous reasons, they discredit the seriousness of their interlocutors. They delight in acting in bad faith, since they seek not to persuade by sound argument but to intimidate and disconcert. If you press them too closely, they will abruptly fall silent, loftily indicating by some phrase that the time for argument is past.”

More thoughts on it here:

APNewsBreak: Mueller team questions Trump friend Tom Barrack

Investigators working for special counsel Robert Mueller have interviewed one of President Donald Trump's closest friends and confidants, California real estate investor Tom Barrack, The Associated Press has learned.
apnews.com/6dd33b4234634079821e5825f112e85b

Barrack has rare access and insight into Trump going back decades, since their days developing real estate. Barrack played an integral role in the 2016 campaign as a top fundraiser at a time when many other Republicans were shunning the upstart candidate. Barrack later directed Trump's inauguration.

Barrack, a wealthy real estate investor with close ties to several Mideast leaders, met Trump in 1988 when he negotiated the sale of The Plaza Hotel in New York to Trump. Barrack's publicist in 2016 described the men as having since "solidified a lifelong friendship between themselves and their families."
