To ask how you told your partner you were pregnant?

Currently TTC.. and constantly getting an overwhelming gut feeling I'm pregnant then a slap in the face that I'm not. Doesn't help that I'm addicted to POAS. Trying to distract myself from sulking by thinking of nice ways to break the news to my partner if and when we are successful.

Anyone got any nice stories? ☺️

We were in the middle of DTD and DH jokingly goes “Ahh I should’ve put a condom on!” (We were TTC) and I just blurted out “Well there’s not much point now...” and he just stopped and stared at me then asked “...Are you? Shock” I nodded and grinned and we both got the giggles and it was lovely :) It’s not how I wanted to tell him but it doesn’t matter really!

toomuchtooold · 24/04/2018 15:03

There wasn't a moment for us as such because I did IVF after three miscarriages and like you're not supposed to test until 14 days after the transfer (because the IVF drugs can give you a false positive) but I had like 10,000 cheap tests to get rid of so I did them from 1 day post transfer. We both watched as the false positive faded away over about 5 days, with a couple of days of negative, and then got a growing (real) positive from about 11 days onward... he was like "what does this one look like" and I was like "yesterday's was definitely negative, right? Because this one isn't." And that was it. I don't think we really believed it till the kids were actually born safely the clinic confirmed the pregnancy by ultrasound at 6 weeks Grin

ZeroFoxGiven · 24/04/2018 15:03

First thing in the morning after POAS -
DH: Are you alright?
Me: Yeah, I'm pregnant.
DH: Oh no! I didn't think you'd tell me like this. I thought you'd sit me down with a glass of whiskey!

It still makes me giggle Grin

Smeddum · 24/04/2018 15:06

DS1 - I came out with it and he flipped and told me to get rid. It was 10 days before we got married and I wish I’d run then!

DD - I’d been told I’d never have more children after complications and I hadn’t had a period for a few months so I did a test so I could rule it out for the Dr. Then burst out laughing in DPs face when it was positive!

DS2 - my (very overweight) SIL made a snide comment about my weight when DD was 5 months old and asked if I was fat or pregnant. Turns out I had a belly full of DS2 and was 20 weeks along! DP came flying into the bathroom when I shouted “fucking hell she was right!” when the test showed up positive.

ZeroFoxGiven · 24/04/2018 15:07

I should point out that we were TTC, so I didn't think it would come as a big surprise. He said afterwards that he thought it was going to take months (got lucky and got BFP on 1st try). I said he shouldn't be surprised because I'd told him a few days before I thought I was getting implantation cramps. He said "Yes, but I didn't think I should take you seriously!"

Eryri1981 · 24/04/2018 15:10

DH was away at work, so wouldn't see him until 7pm the following day, and we chat by messenger all day when he's at work, so I copied and pasted the link for the most expensive pushchair/ travel system on the mothercare website (DH is pretty tight with money and the travel system cost more than out 2 cars combined!!), he understood straight away Smile

cornishmumtobe · 24/04/2018 15:11

I waited til we had a row. Stropped upstairs to take a test which I was sure would be negative so didn't tell him (it was to shut my mom up) aaaand it was positive. So I went in the office where DP was sat sulking, thrust the stick at him with shaking hands and said 'are you reading this like I am?'

Not my finest hour Grin

GreenStars · 24/04/2018 15:11

He looked at the test before me, I was too nervous!

Delphinius · 24/04/2018 15:14

We were camping/mountain biking in Yorkshire. We had spent thousands on fertility treatment overseas good few weeks before. We had been trying for years and years.

MrsD fell off mtb and broke her arm. Off to Scarborough A&E. Once MrsD settled I collected tent etc and checked into local B&B.

Hospital ran gamut of tests before medical intervention on broken arm and said they had news. "I don't want to know" said MrsD, "oh I think you might" replied the nurse with happy eyes.

I came in in the morning, to be met by shell shocked MrsD who could hardly get the words out. The

bloomsburyer · 24/04/2018 15:15

I WhatsApped him a photo of the positive test!

drinkingwinefeelingfine · 24/04/2018 15:19

I have unexplained secondary infertility. We've been trying for years. Our last pregnancy ended in miscarriage. If I got pregnant again I'd love to do something nice but I don't want to get excited either!

bigbird50 · 24/04/2018 15:22

With our unplanned DC4 i sent an email to him at work and typed in the subject matter 'Houston we have a problem'....Grin

@LisaSimpsonsbff

Your post could have been written by me, I too have suffered three consecutive miscarriages, I know exactly how you were feeling and it's awful. I'm sad that even if I ever get a successful pregnancy it will never be stress free. That BFP induces anxiety rather than excitement.

I read somewhere that women in the 60's, 70's - maybe even early 80's wouldn't even test, nor consider pregnancy a possibility until they had missed two consecutive periods. Testing wasn't as advanced or as easily obtainable then. So a lot of miscarriages went undetected - considered a blip in their cycle. They didn't carry the stress of the statistics of three subsequent miscarriages and the worry that there was something wrong with them and it would never happen. Technology is so far advanced now - which on the whole is a good thing - but does bring additional worry. This does give me comfort that yes I am in that 1/100 but it's still statistically more likely that I will carry my (fingers crossed) next pregnancy to term.

Huge congratulations on this pregnancy, sending you lots of positive thoughts. Thanks

Sorry to go off on a tangent OP.
I bought for my second BFP (arrived too late so not given) a T Shirt for DH which says "Please be nice to me - my wife is pregnant" was going to give it to him as a present to announce BFP to him and then get him to wear it when visiting family. See how long it took them to notice.

opionated · 24/04/2018 16:16

i think like anyone else by saying 'im pregnant'

Idontbelieveinthemoon · 24/04/2018 16:19

DH was away in Edinburgh and I texted him "there'll be more creatures in this house when you return than when you left" and he replied "stop fucking well buying cats, we have too many". He finally arrived home and I said nothing til the following day when he appeared with toast and I sprinted to the loo and vomited at the scent of marmite and he stood in the bathroom doorway, went pale and said "dear lord you're pregnant aren't you?"

And that was that.

BackIntoTheSun · 24/04/2018 16:55

We'd just started ttc and i had a bad cold, so told my DH I was gonna take a test so that I could be sure I was ok to take Lemsip (apparently not ok to have when pregnant). It was Xmas eve and he was in the spare room changing the bed ready for in laws when I came in, waved my pee stick at him and said 'Looks like I can't have any Lemsip for a while!'

notfunnyhaha85 · 24/04/2018 17:12

First DC - Ran in to the kitchen while DH was washing up, shoved a very positive pregnancy test in his face and shouted 'Loooooooooook!!!'

Second DC - Rang him at work as couldn't wait for him to come home to tell him. He reacted with 'shut up!' (a happy shut up, not a proper shut up).

Wish I could have done a Pinterest/Instagram style reveal for both DC but I'm too impatient and not that creative.

DontWannaBeObamasElf · 24/04/2018 17:15

The first time (which resulted in a loss) I ran through with my pants round my ankles shouting “fuck, I’m pregnant”. Second time I told him over the phone “fuck, I’m pregnant!” And the third and final time was a phone call at work “I’m pregnant already! Fuck, that was quick!”

ALongHardWinter · 24/04/2018 18:36

I didn't,he told me! I'd just come out of hospital after having minor surgery to remove an ovarian cyst that was causing me considerable pain. (This was back in 1982). While I was in the hospital,I'd had a pregnancy test as my period was late. When I was discharged, they said to phone my GP in 3 days time to get the result. I was at home recuperating on the day I had to phone and we didn't have a landline phone. (This was long before mobiles were common place). So my husband (then fiancé) called the surgery from a phone box on his way home from work. I had woken up that morning feeling really sick so when he came in and 'You're pregnant' it wasn't a complete surprise! I wonder how many women aren't the first to know they're pregnant? I would imagine it's much less common nowadays, with the availability of tests that give your more or less instant results. But back in 1982,it took a couple of hours for the result to be known on a home testing kit,and it was still quite common for women to go to their GP for a test.

QueenofmyPrinces · 24/04/2018 18:48

Baby number 1: My DH was out playing Cricket when I got a faint positive but I knew he carried his mobile on him so I phoned him and screamed out down the phone that I was pregnant.

Baby number 2: I didn’t tell him for 4 days because I didn’t know how he’d react. And when I actually did tell him I did it with a ‘beating around the bush” approach because I just didn’t know to tell him.

TheSconeOfStone · 24/04/2018 19:04

First time after 18 months TTC, first fertility appointment behind us (I had irregular light periods). I just told him. He said ‘I thought you must be’ as I had been sick and exhausted for weeks. I was scared to test as didn’t believe it would happen. DH was delighted as we have due to do a sperm test a couple of days later.

Second time got pregnant first month of trying. DH didn’t take it well. Shock at the speed of it and disappointment that there wouldn’t be more trying involved. I got horrendous nausea as soon as sperm met egg.

mumof2exhausted · 24/04/2018 19:06

I did the test just Christmas Eve as had gut feeling I was pregnant then popped it in box with a tiny “made in manchester” babygrow and gave him it as Christmas present. He cried!

peanutbutter310 · 24/04/2018 19:08

My face when I came out of the bathroom said it all!

SaucyJane · 24/04/2018 19:11

Sorry but I can't stop laughing at "stop fucking buying cats" Grin

LuluJakey1 · 29/04/2018 11:40

And having decided we would keep it to ourself until we had more information about how far on I was, had had a scan etc, he went straight along to the takeaway and told (because he 'just had to tell someone' ) the man in the takeaway who gave us free onion bajhis as a congratulations.
