To ask if this is appropriate feedback?

Recently gave a manager upwards feedback. I thought they were a good mentor and said words to that effect. However I felt that support was sometimes lacking a little (notably when I was sometimes left to work til midnight on my own!) and they could be impatient when asked questions. I therefore raised two development points (they are common in feedback in my industry) which I had hoped were very tactfully worded: the first being “continue to explain things in even greater detail, with the awareness that it may be the first time a junior has performed such a task” and the second was “continue to provide support to juniors when working outside contacted hours, to role model desired team behaviours” - passive aggressive or ok? Am doubting self

Good feedback I'd say. You worded it tactfully. Is that 360 feedback?
I work in HR and
I've had a few members of staff complain about a particular manager at work and would like him to receive this kind of feedback actually.

It sounds ok to me

We use 360 feedback, and yours sounds well-worded and constructive.

Thanks! The problem is they really were a good manager in other ways and I don’t want them to take it personally!

Feedback that isn't constructive isn't much use. Showing that you've acted on feedback always goes down well in performance reviews and you've given your manager some useful material to work with.

Without knowing what you do at work it's hard to say. In my job one of the perks of being a manager is not staying late when workloads dictate.

I work in professional services/finance so very long hours.

A couple of times they left before me and I was left finishing off number crunching type work well into the evening (think gone midnight). This was not a usual occurrence so I feel guilty mentioning it but I felt very isolated at the time and think it would have been more appropriate to share it out or give a longer deadline. (Deadline was client driven.)
