AIBU to want to find music I can enjoy with my 4 year old?

After living in a haze for the last few years, I have finally found my feet and want to enjoy listening to music with my child but am a bit lost. I'm looking for recommendations that are child friendly but not kid's music, which can be pretty grating. Have recently purchased Divide Ed Sheeran, Human Rag n Bone and Greatest Day Take That. Something we can sing to, dance to or have in the background during playtime. Open to classical, pop, rock etc. Please share the albums that you and your kids enjoy together. Thanks

Have you got Spotify? It's one of the best things I've ever purchased is our Spotify subscription.

The Greatest Showman soundtrack is a good one.
My eldest also really loves Run Boy Run by Woodkid & the Moana soundtrack is another favourite, went through a phase of liking David Bowie hits too.

We listen to a lot of varied music & generally just pick playlists on Spotify to listen to - 'Cheesy Hits ' or 'Easy 90s' are my kind of music Grin

50s rock and roll is generally swear free and lots of good song along, dance along.

We also love ramones, queen, rolling stones, aerosmi th, bonjovi.

Rock but without the swearing.

I just listen to 'my' music with them. DS has loved Fall Out Boy since he was a toddler. I took them to see them live recently, he declared it the best day of his life!

FissionChips · 23/04/2018 13:51

Buena vista social club- great music, especially for the warm weather.

Katyb1310 · 23/04/2018 13:57

My daughter loved the Carnival of the Animals, she loved listening out for all the different animals

cablewable · 23/04/2018 13:59

My daughter loves any films with songs and singing in so I normally download the songs and we sing along to those.
Greatest showman soundtracks brilliant, Moanas a good one to really go at 😂 anything Disney.

londonmummy1966 · 23/04/2018 14:05

YY to Carnival of the Animals. On the classical front fast movements from Vivaldi Four Seasons or Bach Brandenburg Concertos and any choral music by Stanford (weird kids I know). Also liked Joseph, Annie and Sound of Music and cheesy 70s and 80s music....

kaytee87 · 23/04/2018 14:09

My 21mo likes lots of things but mainly things I enjoy because then I'll sing and dance which he loves.
Choose songs that make you happy.
DS has been known to like dancing to reggae Grin

Pfftlife · 23/04/2018 14:27

I used to play songs from black lace. Kids love Superman (comb your hair Grin ) birdy song and so on. We actually still put them on occasionally and have a dance round the kitchen doing all the moves 😂 apart from that I would play whatever I enjoyed listening to, they would join in

Stompythedinosaur · 23/04/2018 15:33

David Gibb is excellent music to share with kids.

Love51 · 23/04/2018 15:43

I came on to say Carnival of the Animals as well. My son became a but obsessed but the music is rich enough to stand repeated listening. I quite like the Pentatonix which because they do cover versions has led to the kids exploring the originals. Although I did end up with my 3 year old being heavily into Daft Punk which isn't sweary, so the words are ok unless you stop and think about them!

MissWilmottsGhost · 23/04/2018 15:47

At 4 DD liked guns n roses and nirvana HmmGrin

Notso · 23/04/2018 16:17

Mine love all kinds of music, they pick up a lot from older DD and DS1 as well as from DH and me, GP's and they love listening to the radio.
Recent requests from Alexa include, I like to Move it, Move it by Reel 2 Reel, Right Here, Right Now by Fatboy Slim, Happy by Pharrell Williams, Cheer Up London by Slaves, Boys by Charlie XCX, Biscuit Town By King Krule, It's Raining Men by The Weather Girls and Finland by Monty Python.

I listened to a lot of ABBA and Queen when I was little. I don't listen to Queen very much any more but I'm still a strong ABBA fan! I am also incredibly excited for Mamma Mia 2!!!

Pikmin · 23/04/2018 16:26

Jack Johnson, the Curious George album is from the kids film but all his other stuff too. And I 3rd Ok Go.

Agent13 · 23/04/2018 16:28

The soundtrack to the film Sing is pretty good, my five year old likes it. Got some classics on there.

ADayGivingMeHope · 23/04/2018 16:36

4 years old?
Andy and the odd socks is really good kids music that isn't annoying!
We love it!
They even do an inspirational song about how being unique is great!

Cutesbabasmummy · 23/04/2018 16:39

ANother vote for Nick Cope! We saw him at Easter and my 3 year old loves singing the songs!

Doesntlooklikeanythingtome · 23/04/2018 17:30

So I have joined Spotify and found Romesh Raganathan's Kid Friendly Hip Hop playlist and like Bust a Move, takes me back to my youth.

Another Nick Cope fan here. He is ace!

the poo song is a real earworm though

frasier · 23/04/2018 17:43

Bruno Mars
Adele

Pick your tracks carefully.

frasier · 23/04/2018 17:45

Sorry posted too soon. Adele swears on some of her live performances on YouTube! Don’t play live tracks!

IHaveACuntingPlan · 23/04/2018 17:54

Tbh I didn't/don't really consider my dc's tastes when I stream songs onto my spotify list and the radio is usually on in the kitchen. If they hear a song they like they ask me to turn it up and then sing along.

My 5 y old loves the Red Hot Chilli Peppers, the Foo Fighters and G'n'R lol

LightDrizzle · 23/04/2018 18:01

My dd1 liked the Spice Girls and classical. She used to sing “Three Blind Sheep” instead of “Feed my sheep” to Handel’s Messiah. Best of all, she’d join in with the Queen if the Night’s solo from The Magic Flute from her car seat. It was hilarious.
I think they respond best to things that are strongly melodic or patterned.
ABBA would be good!

callmeadoctor · 23/04/2018 18:05

I ask Alexa for 80s pop! Grin
