To want some bathroom scales that work

Latest ones are a year old. You need to step on them, step off and move and step on and repeat a few times and then get a reading that stays.

Weight is fluctuating far more than possible.

And yes I'm dieting. I just want to know what's working.

These are Bluetooth digital ones. I don't want to pay £50+ for posh ones.

I have had basic non digital and digital and all end up doing this.

Why not take measurements instead? You know they are accurate and they are a great indication of weight loss

totallyliterally · 23/04/2018 08:17

Yes I do measurements too, but the scales motivates me and is quicker progress to see

Have you tried putting new batteries in them?

MaryLennoxsScowl · 23/04/2018 08:28

I hear ya! My DH insisted on getting digital ones and the reading changes depending on where they sit on the floor. Also, they’re supposed to tell you your body fat percentage, which I thought would help with the gaining muscle being heavier than fat thing, but the first reading for fat we both got was that we were morbidly obese. DH is a skinny marathon runner with size 32” jeans, and I’m a size 10. The body fat reading then fluctuated so badly I gave up on it. DH maintains that his is slightly decreasing despite saying he’s morbidly obese as a baseline, which to me means the whole thing is suspect! What’s more, despite knowing it couldn’t be true that I was obese (+30% fat), I still had a moment of oh god, what if it’s right and I’m just fooling myself!

I agree, I've had no joy finding reliable scales, I've given up.

BarbaraofSevillle · 23/04/2018 08:30

Weight is a poor indicator of the success of a diet, apart from a broad overview over time. As well as the scales reading differently every time you step on or off, your weight varies according to hydration levels, which vary hugely according to what you've eaten and drunk, where you are in your menstrual cycle and what exercise you've down, also what's going through your digestive system and all sorts of other things.

Just because you weigh 2 pounds less than a few days ago, doesn't necessarily link the food consumption in that time to how well it works or doesn't. You could have the most reliable accurate scales in the world and there would still be these fluctuations.

Find some trousers that are too tight and try them on. Try them on again every couple of weeks and check your progress that way.

YANBU. I bought cheapest digital ones from John Lewis and they work fine. I have an older set of bathroom scales that I thought were broken but just needed a new battery and they are very unreliable!

totallyliterally · 23/04/2018 14:01

Will go to John Lewis now and look.

Fully aware of fluctuations etc. But also when doing a big goal (3 stone) want to see the numbers

I bought some EufyLife scales on offer from amazon, intigrate with my Fitbit and give massive amounts of extra data

They’ve been fab, fascinating to watch my muscle mass increase, check my bone density etc all for less than £30

totallyliterally · 23/04/2018 14:59

@Schroedingerscatagain

And are you finding they are consistent?

QueenOfAccidentalDeathStares · 23/04/2018 15:01

how flat is your floor?

our scales only work reliably in the kitchen and not in the bathroom.

I weigh myself 7 times in the bathroom and get 7 different results.

totallyliterally · 23/04/2018 15:22

It's flat in there. Only other hard floor in house is kitchen and don't fancy naked weighing with the windows Grin

YANBU

I gave up and bought giant Salter mechanical ones

I have digital ones and in one room I weigh 3 kg more than in another! And often just 30 mins apart and I'm a few kilos different! Pointless.

FatBallsAndSunflowerSeeds · 23/04/2018 17:35

I've always had this with scales, no matter which kind I buy, but the ones we've got at the moment actually are ok, touch wood! And they're just some Argos own brand.

Previously I've used the scales that you put money in in Boots to track my progress- this also stops you weighing too often and getting disheartened/obsessed.

totallyliterally · 23/04/2018 19:05

Thanks all

Ordered the EufyLife scales ones and will report back :)

@totallyliterally

any joy?

RatherBeRiding · 08/05/2018 11:58

I've been through several scales including mechanical ones and the ONLY ones that have been accurate and reliable are WeightWatchers digital ones. Brilliant!

SerPants · 08/05/2018 12:20

Another vote for the WeightWatchers digital scales. Mine were about £20 I think from Argos. They are very consistent, at least on the lino-ed floor of our bathroom.

I have also tested them by weighing myself, then getting back on the scales carrying a 2litre bottle of water. The reading was exactly 2kg heavier. Also worked in reverse fortunately!

SerPants · 08/05/2018 12:24

Just checked, they were actually £14.99.

RamblingFar · 08/05/2018 12:27

My Weightwatchers digital ones also don't fluctuate. Can stand on them several times and the weight is still the same to the 0.25lb.
