To have not eaten these prawns?

Currently on holiday in Asia. This evening we went out for dinner at a place that has great TA reviews. I ordered 300g of the garlic prawns, which arrived in the form of four HUGE langoustines. On closer inspection though, two of them turned out to be a distinctly off-putting shade of green around the head, so I didn’t eat them. DH got cross saying it was a waste and an insult to their cooking.

Now I’m a huge seafood fan. I can wolf away a pint of prawns and a seafood platter at Mersea Island seafood shed like they’re running out of them. But I’ve never encountered green prawns before. WIBU to have left them?

It's not all fake tans and white stilletos 😜

It would have been much better to just eat them and the projectile vomit for the next few days. Your darling husband would have loved coping with you ill and puking for the rest of your time there i'm sure.

Definitely definitely not unreasonable!

They look as though they need to be swabbed and given antibiotics. Yuk.

Another vote for prawn poo - it is safe to eat, but not pleasant. I love seafood and can veer towards being a bit cavalier about some food-related things, but I probably wouldn't have fancied eating these.

I suspect I would have though, just avoided the green bits...

Do prawns poo in their brains Confused

captainBligh · 23/04/2018 03:07

It isn't their brains. It's organs. Still fine to eat.

LolitaLempicka · 23/04/2018 03:11

Surely it’s the hepatopancreas (like the tomalley in lobster) not poo. The tomalley in lobsters is the best bit! Not sure if it is the same in prawns, but I would have eaten them.

Absolutely grim!

Whether it's fine to eat or not, it's up to each individual to chose what they feel comfortable eating.
