To be sad about Avicci?

Also feel the same about other young dead musicians. Die young, prob drugs/alchohol. Just feel that talent burns bright and gone too soon. Winehouse and Cobain also sad.

I’m not cold, I’m not a horrible person. I’ve had enough difficulty and upset in my own life without getting upset over a stranger. I’m ok with that

Do you not feel sad at the news of air strikes on Syria and the like? Confused

jnfrrss · 21/04/2018 18:47

He didn't retire from music, just touring. His career definitely peaked years ago and as trends changed he had a few flops. He was the chainsmokers of 5 years ago.

Pigpigpig · 21/04/2018 18:48

That’s not comparable butchy Confused

I am asking a question regarding a statement that you made to justify your response. You just said you had enough upset in your life without feeling sad about a “stranger”.

The people who are reported dead in tragic events in the news are presumably strangers to you. So if your justification regarding your comments about Avicii is that you don’t get upset about “strangers”, it’s reasonable to ask whether you apply that to all strangers, or just some.

tabulahrasa · 21/04/2018 18:53

“His health problems were exasperated with the drink and drugs.”

I’ve always assumed they were caused by them tbh...

Still a shame though, seems so young and I really like his music Sad

BakedBeans47 · 21/04/2018 18:54

YANBU, it’s very sad, far too young to die x

Pigpigpig · 21/04/2018 18:56

3.5k people have died in Syria alone this year. Its quite, quite different Butchy.

Ellenripleysalienbaby · 21/04/2018 18:56

I have limited sympathy.

Did you have to come on here and share that?

Grimbles · 21/04/2018 18:56

I don't get why people have to come onto condolence threads just to say they don't care / don't know / aren't bothered about the dead person Confused

Pigpigpig · 21/04/2018 18:57

Perhaps AIBU was not the best place for the thread?

Are you going to keep avoiding the question? Hmm. You are the one who said it.

Do you or do you not feel sad about the death of these strangers?

Ellenripleysalienbaby · 21/04/2018 18:58

Perhaps AIBU was not the best place for the thread?

Contrary to belief there is no obligation to be a total twat on an AIBU thread. It's not compulsory!

AvonCallingBarksdale · 21/04/2018 18:59

Keep digging Pigpigpig Hmm

TeachesOfPeaches · 21/04/2018 19:01

I felt very sad reading about this this morning even though I'm not much of a fan. This was a young man who had the world at his feet but was also a severe alcoholic. 28 is no age at all.

I don’t see how the two possibly compare. I feel incredibly angry about what is going on in Syria. Yes, I feel sad because the situation is utterly tragic.

But completely different to one man where they’ve said the death is unsuspicious. The two things are just so very different.

Grasslands · 21/04/2018 19:03

i feel badly for his parents and the loved ones he left behind.
but it's highly unlikely his mother and father, sister or brother are scouring mn looking for condolences from complete strangers....
i too find it very odd that people feel for someone they don't and will never know.

LyingWitchInTheWardrobe2726 · 21/04/2018 19:03

Me too OP, an incredible talent. I'm glad he was here and very sad that there will be no more of his music.

Ellenripleysalienbaby · 21/04/2018 19:07

It was just the pithy one liner that felt a bit.... harsh pigpigpig

Like that was all you could come up about the death of a man who is not yet 30, who has left behind family and friends who loved him.

You know that saying about how 'if you can't say anything nice.......'?

LyingWitchInTheWardrobe2726 · 21/04/2018 19:07

I think the people questioning how he (and anybody else) died are tasteless. Why does it matter? It's nobody's bloody business.

ButchyRestingFace · 21/04/2018 19:09

I’m not saying that they are directly comparable. They’re not.

I was asking about your astonishing statement in which you said that you don’t feel sad about the death of strangers.

That is what you said.. There was no equivocation.

It was a dick move to come onto a thread like this and say what you did. You further compounded it by justifying your remarks on the basis that you don’t feel upset about the deaths of strangers.

People are obv going to ask you if you really mean that.

You’ve now clarified that you do feel sad about the situation in Syria, and hence the death of strangers.

Pigpigpig · 21/04/2018 19:09

You’re right Ellen, it was more harsh than I’d intended. I apologise.

Hofty · 21/04/2018 19:16

Oh honestly pigpigpig what a nasty and pointless comment that was.

Get something better to do.

jnfrrss · 21/04/2018 19:38

Yeah they probably were caused by drink drugs but he probably had some genetic dispersion as others do the same without the same result

Pigpigpig · 21/04/2018 19:59

Butchy, I have conceded I was harsh and my comment was out of line.

However, you know fine well what I’m getting at regarding being sad about people (ie celebrities) I haven’t met. Grasslands phrased it well.
