Please put warning in the title.

Just clicked of a thread and saw a picture of something I have an irrational fear of. Had a panic attack. If there was a warning, I would have never clicked on said thread; please say you're putting potentially triggering pictures on threads- AIBU?

OP posts:

Anything at all could be someone elses irrational fear.
Mine are moths and birds flapping thier wings. I dont expect anyone to give a hoot about that nor give a warning about them.

Most threads have warnings for spiders or clowns or potential abuse 'triggers'. But we cant possibly police threads for every possible irrational fear in the world.

What was your fear btw? If we don't know how the heck is anyone to post a warning in future?

Is this whole thread a joke?

Ffs if the title showed the thing you are affraid of why the hell did you click on it then blame the poster for not considering your fear?

Caulk, you are right. I know completely what OP means, but, yes, you can't blame the world for not respecting your irrational fears (and sometimes we have to come to terms with our rational ones, too). If you know that your fear is irrational you're starting from a good place. Talk to your GP to see if you can be referred for CBT or something, or pay for it yourself if you can. xx

Hang on, did OP just confirm that the picture in question was in fact the questionable gentleman's beach attire?

Or was that a joke?

If true, I suppose the reference to revealing men's swimwear definitely WASNT in the thread title, so I suppose there is a point to be made about having a clear title.

However, this does raise so many questions: why do you fear men's revealing bathingwear, OP? Summer is coming...

Warning, no.

Meaningful non-vague title, absolutely.

I don't think that can be reasonably defined as "attire".

And it definitely needs a 3 Star warning.

It wasnt the beach wear it was the beard v no beard thread.

Yep sorry YABU,

how can any one know what everyone else's phobias are and how serious they are? It would become that every thread had triggering
Also I'm sorry but there's some responsibility, I have a massive fear of birds now I can't avoid them but I can't blame a poster if they posted a picture of their pet budgey and I happened to open the thread I opened it.

Nah, I think it was the 'beach wear' one, having seen it.

A few years ago, apparently some people found the word 'spider' so upsetting that thread titles had to use the code word 'loofah' instead. I'm not sure if it was for real or a long-running joke.

WorraLiberty You win the thread hands down. Having said that, if I catch even a glimpse of a post with a photo taken from top of skyscraper I immediately feel not only terror but a horrible sensation in my belly, and I have exactly the same reaction even if the image pops into my mind the next day. Neurotic and frustrating. But I'd cringe if it occurred to me to suggest trigger warnings for images that might disturb me because I wouldn't have assumed everyone else should take pains to avoid upsetting me.

I don't know what it is with some of the posters here. Maybe some of them took The Princess and the Pea too much to heart and arelooking for sensitivity ratings: Someone at work didn't say hello and made me go to the loo and cry! I needed 39 mattresses! I'm Sensitive!

Nope. Sorry OP (I’m no fan of our arachnid friends so I get it) but the phrase trigger warning really gets me.

It should be reserved for genuine trauma - so someone who lived through a terrorist attack and has issues with loud noises should be warned before they go into an art installation with loud bangs - or someone who has been abused should be warned before being stuck in a situation where abuse is talked about graphically and they can’t get away.

It’s only to be used for serious stuff where the person couldnt get away. I know people who’ve lived through some awful stuff who are wary of loud noises for example.

Generally in the web, you can shut the device down.

Trigger warnings in university courses are part of the decline of kids being challenged and able to develop cognitive tools to debate and counter extremism. It’s a terrible indictment on our society.

So no, Not spiders. Sorry. I hate the buggers too but that's my problem
