Early conciliation through ACAS- anyone done it?

Not AIBU but posting for traffic.

I am thinking of going through early conciliation over an unfair redundancy. I don’t really want to go to tribunal as I can’t afford a lawyer. Has anyone ever done early conciliation through ACAs and had success? How does it work and are cases likely to get resolved this way?

Are you in a union? The law has recently changed where you don't have to pay to go to tribunal now.

No I’m not in a union unfortunately. I know the tribunal is free but representation isn’t and I don’t think I’d want to represent myself.

Have you checked if there is any legal cover in any insurance you have?

I would go via academy. If they think you have a case, go for a no win no fee.

Hindsight is a wonderful thing, but I don't think anyone can afford not to be in a union these days with all the shitty employers around presently 😟

Acas not academy 😤

See if the CAB can help you. I work on the other side in HR. Fortunately I have limited experience of EATs as we aim to always be fair etc.

However one which went to EAT I was really impressed with the help and knowledge the CAB provided to the employee.

Some time ago but I did. Got a settlement as well.
However check your home insurance...some have legal cover on that

ChunckyMonkey · 19/04/2018 21:23

Most employers would settle before going to court. So just going through ACAS and bluffing taking legal action may just be enough. Depends how strong the evidence in your favour is.

DH did this last year. His (ex)employers offered us a settlement. You contact ACAS, they speak to you and the other party. They explain to other party what they stand to lose at tribunal etc, and try to come to an agreement between you. We had a very positive experience with it.
