What would you do on your day off?

It's my 'day off' from being Mum on Saturday and I've no idea what to do.

I was originally wanting to go see a specific film at the cinema but the timing is awkward so I can't do that.

AIBU for just wanting to go sit on an air conditioned sofa with my favourite snacks for a few hours with a book and where would I go to do that's out of the house?

And what would you do? Would love inspiration for any future days off! Grin

Get thee to Costa! WiFi, air con, drinks, cake...

luckiestgirl · 19/04/2018 19:37

On my days off I go to Wetherspoons (classy) and eat nachos and read my book and listen to music with my headphones in. Then on to a cafe to drink a pot of tea and eat cake and read. Then to the cinema.

Is their a low key spa nearby you could use might be cooler and more relaxing than being out in the open. We have a lovely Centre parcs near us it’s pricey but lovely as a treat and lots of spots to read and relax. I sometimes go with DH for a sneaky day off midweek read and relax and the outdoor pool is lovely.
Or get some head phones to listen to relaxing music and find a quiet shady spot in the park or by a river or steam nearby that you can take your book and a mini picnic.
Or meet some good friends for a few drinks and a natter.

Yes a coffee shop like costa would be an idea. If the weather remains to be gorgeous, a lovely park with a good book, some glossy inspirational magazines, picnic for one on a shaded spot under a tree or a shaded bench.

Then home time to cook something you love but your child/ren would not eat. So cook it just for yourself and demolish it.

Watch whatever you fancy on tv and listen to music and read in bed undisturbed. Then fall asleep whenever...

One day of me-time, as good as a holiday, even better (assuming that the day extends to the night-time as well. If not then the evening bit might not be that indulging).

DietCokeIsBae · 19/04/2018 19:54

DunnoWhy, it'll be a few hours in the day that I get as I'm just leaving DP with our son at home whilst I go out and have some me-time.

I'll be back in time to cook tea for everyone but it'll also be a yummy tea of my choosing :)

I would end up doing housework if I stayed at home.
I would go for a swim, lunch by myself, or a massage.

EnglishRose13 · 19/04/2018 19:57

I had a "day off" today and I sorted the spare rooms and met my mum for a coffee.

I would have preferred to read, binge watch a tv series and eat.

parentorguardian · 19/04/2018 20:04

As of today I would get my hair cut and coloured then come home to an empty house and read a book!

DunnoWhy · 19/04/2018 20:10

What do you like doing? What are your interests? What would you be doing in your pre-child days or even pre-DP days when you had time and will and energy? Perhaps you would like to re-live the carefree old-days.
Even sitting in a quiet library, flicking through random magazines that you wouldn't necessarily be buying, then moving to the books that interest you, flicking through them and make plans, get inspirations, being in your own fancy-private world in a good library. Bliss.
Good luck.

TeeBee · 19/04/2018 20:14

I would go antique shopping because apart from my dad, nobody likes scouring the antique shops like I do.

DietCokeIsBae · 20/04/2018 06:43

I enjoy crochet and I'm working on a blanket at the moment which I'm considering taking with me to a coffee shop.

I also like reading and playing video games but the latter I can only do at home and me and DP do manage to have some gaming time in evenings some week nights after DS has gone down to bed (he's 7 months)

I like cooking and baking too which again I would only really do at home so I would like some of my days off to be at home in an empty house but DP doesn't yet know the area so I'm not going to turf him out for hours on end with DS Grin

I'd probably pootle around the shops in the morning, then find somewhere lovely to have lunch outside with a cold glass of white wine.
In the afternoon I'd be in a beer garden on a day like today tbh! Failing that, I'd find somewhere I could alternate between swimming pool / steam room / jacuzzi/ sun terrace.

Poppiesway1 · 20/04/2018 07:14

Today after 14 day’s of work I’m off too 😁 booked in for hair cut this morning and will nip to a neighbouring town to wonder some shops and look for a lovely top I eyed up online last night. So between 8:30-3pm I’m child free and having a Little day to me :)
I’d have got my legs waxed too if the beauticians had have had a space at short notice.

DunnoWhy · 20/04/2018 11:49

DietCokeIsBae perhaps you would like to do something that you haven't been able to do for a while, something that you wouldn't necessarily do at home. So it rules out cooking,

Something different to what you would usually do, for instance going alone to a place of interest, museum, National Trust building, cinema (time permitting), some little pampering ie manicure (I'm not implying it might be unusual, I'm just writing some pampering ideas that I have, for myself Smile ).

Depending on where you live, you could perhaps go to a neighbouring borough or town, or resort, and take it from there. Change of scenery also feels so refreshing sometimes, even if it's only a coffee shop and restaurant but in a different area. It's great to have a change from the routine.

Weather is set to be pleasant in all over the UK tomorrow (I think), so it opens up more chances for a pleasant stroll and picnic & meal in a different park- lake-woods-scenic settings in a different area.

If it doesn't feel like too much of a hassle, perhaps you could do the crochet & good book & nice meal ideas in a neighbouring town. A very quick search on the Trip Advisor or local tourist board website to find out about the best parks, attractions etc in the nearby places. As if you are a tourist to the area.
If all these fancy ideas fail, still I'm sure you'll get the best out of your free time by being alone with your creative hobbies for a few hours in your own city.
