To ask how much weight I can lose in 8 weeks? Help!

I'm 5 feet 3 inches tall, and slightly disgruntled to find out my scales say I weigh 153lbs. It's a good half stone more than I thought.

I have an event coming up where I'm wearing a costume and I thought I'd like to lose a few pounds to get under 10 stone for the photos etc. However now I don't think I'll be able because I'm starting off much heavier?

It's not the end of the world, Im happy how I look in general, and get away with carrying my chubby bits because I have a defined waist and mostly flat stomach (except with period bloat when I feel like a sack of shit physically and emotionally!) but vaguely thought I'd aspire to look my best for this event.

I eat what I like which varies a lot day to day, depending on hunger, I take a form of steroid medication too.

Totally confused looking online at what weight loss would be sensible in this instance, a pound a week would be cool but not sure realistic? Half a pound doesn't seem worth the effort though Grin

Wwyd if you were me?

I think you have to buy it now. It used to be on YouTube.

Vladimirs what's a VLCD?

It’s not just about calories. Check your macros. I’d say you are 1500 calorie of pasta and sauce you would put weight on. Up the healthy fats and protein. 8 weeks is loads of time to do it healthily.

I lost 2 stone in 8 weeks by following Slimming World religiously.
I am 5 '4" and was 11 stone, went down to 9.

Some weeks 4lbs lost, others 3lbs. I mostly had the same thing - porridge with berries for breakfast, Ryvita and lean ham for lunch and a home made vegetable soup for dinner. I didn't have any of the crap snack stuff they promote, Muller Lights etc. Upped my exercise, walked more, started doing yoga.
I have kept it all off by juicing and cutting out sugar as much as possible. I eat what I like on Sundays.
Hardly drink alcohol anyway or no doubt I would have found it more difficult.

I'm the same height OP and currently loosing 1lb a week on 1200 calls a day (more like 1600 at the weekends). Finding it easy enough - MFP is fabulous, you really can't go wrong. I only signed up 3 weeks ago and have lost 3.25lbs, only aiming to lose another 5 or 6 so shouldn't take too long. Plan to stay MFP'ing long term to maintain.

Two pounds a week is totally doable. Exercise (even walking) for at least 30 minutes every day, no refined carbs (especially sugar!), no alcohol, lots of veg, no more than two pieces of fruit, lean meat and fish...

VladmirsPoutine · 19/04/2018 19:32

BasilFaulty Very low calorie diet.

It's not for the faint of heart!

ALongHardWinter · 19/04/2018 19:33

Well in my experience, you'd probably lose about 4 - 5 lbs the first week, then approx. 2 lbs per week each week after that. Assuming you're on a diet of 1200 -1500 calories? So it should be possible in theory to lose around 19 lbs over 8 weeks. (Should make you 134 lbs, well under your 10 stone/140 lbs target).

Weeksflyingbyargh · 19/04/2018 19:47

This is all very encouraging! I'm amazed! Thought I'd get lots of advice explaining that it would be impractical to aim for more than half a pound per week. Mostly because I'm quite a short arse so really don't need many calories!

Can anyone explain macros to me in simple terms? Any links to sensible pages about it? Sorry, I'm not at home and only have net access on my phone until after the weekend and find it hard to filter the best Google hits on a tiny screen.

Does Myfitnesspal need an app - is that the one where you scan a picture of what you eat and it calculates the calories?

There's so much great tech stuff for fitness but I find it hard to get the best out of it all - for example I love my Fitbit and I think it can connect to Myfitnesspal but not sure how!

I lost nearly a stone in five weeks to get down to 8st 6lb. I am 5 foot 1 and was 38yo at the time. I didn't do any exercise over and above daily walking to and from work, and i didn't eat carbs or sugar. Basically I ate fruit, veg, protein, salad, fruit and had porridge or yoghurt and fruit for breakfast. Then reintroduced carbs and sugar gently after I lost the weight. It stayed off for a year.

Mistoffelees · 19/04/2018 21:07

I'm just an inch taller than you and am the same weight, sounds like we're a similar build too. I need to get back on MFP and have some willpower because when I did that a couple of years ago I lost a pound a week without upping my exercise at all. I did have to cut down to 1200 calories a day though which was trickier than I thought to start with, I think I snack more than I realise.

onlyanothernamechange · 19/04/2018 21:57

My fitness pal is an app where you log everything you eat and it counts calories. Pretty simple to follow and makes you realise pretty quickly how much you're actually eating!

Like everything though - planning is fair enough but it's the doing that's difficult. Start tomorrow by cutting out snacks and cutting down on booze. Don't eat a takeaway this weekend and drink less wine. Have an apple instead of chocolate. All simple stuff but these are the swaps and cuts that will help you lose weight.

I would think of it as - yes in 8 weeks you might not lose a stone - but you might lose 7-8lbs and still feel great.

Hi everyone
I was wondering if anyone out there has any experience with Obesity, depression and hashimotos. I am living with all 3 and life can be unbearable at times. The absolute worst thing about it is that I know exactly what I should be doing to help myself but do nothing towards helping or healing myself. All my thoughts are geared towards what I should and could be doing, planning and spending money I don’t have on therapists, programmes and diets. I have never looked so bad am I am deeply ashamed of my appearance. The painful thing is I used to be an attractive girl but now am obese, grey roots with frazzled dry hair with acne. My clothes are awful I despise them but my body is not just large but misshapen from years of dieting, weight loss surgeries and having a baby. I have a beautiful child and she is picking up on my depression and exhaustion. When I’m not working or looking after my little one I just go to bed. I would sleep all day everyday if I could. Then of course comes the night time binge eating and binge drinking at times. I desperately want to lose weight and follow a healthy lifestyle but it’s like there is something there that won’t let me. I start but can’t finish. I’m on medication for everything- depression/ low thyroid but feel nothing is changing. How can I stop the pattern of starting something, getting excited and then the inevitable failure? I really feel losing weight would help but not sure if I should concentrate on depression or low thyroid first. Thanks in advance.
