To think I'm hideous

So I'm 34 weeks pregnant and am feeling absolutely hideous.

I know pregnancy is the most wonderful thing in the world, what an amazing thing to be able to do and I'm very blessed to have my children.

But my god I'm feeling terrible today. My ass looks like it should be pulling a cart, my stomach is big and round and bloated, my boobs are inflated, my nipples - let's not even go there. I've got discharge like I don't know what. I don't remember feeling like this with my first, but this time I feel so ugly.

AIBU to wonder if other pregnant women feel the same and if I'll ever deflate back to normal size??

I felt like an enormous lumbering hippo both times. Piled on 4 stone, looked like the back end of a bus, my belly button stuck out and was really noticeable with whatever I wore, I had cankles...

Also feel jealous when I see women looking dainty with lovely neat bump, like they’ve swallowed a basketball. I was NOT one of them.

ThatchersCold · 19/04/2018 18:15

Oh and yeah you will deflate. Took me 5 years both times though...probably could have sped the process up if I’d actually TRIED to lose weight though.

KT63 · 19/04/2018 18:19

I remember someone telling me I was glowing and I burst into tears. I was in agony (SPD), had piles the size of a small dog, hadn’t stopped peeing for what felt like years, looked and felt like a burst ball and was hormonal as fuck.

Cake for you OP, you’re not hideous.

Queenio24 · 19/04/2018 18:19

Yes I was like the proverbial ship in full sail, however I also had toes and fingers like sausages, boobs that started somewhere under my armpits, and a bottom like blancmange.
Hang on in there, you will deflate again!

It's the heat, have a cool shower then coat yourself in talc, cotton maxi dress and nice soft panty liner and you'll feel much better.

My ds was born end of July 16 and I remember feeling like a sweaty beached whale with thighs that suddenly started rubbing together Sad

Bluntness100 · 19/04/2018 18:23

Yeah, I hated it, sat in the garden at 38 weeks crying I couldn't do it any more. Felt huge, I was , I piled on 5 stone. Went from 9 to 14.

The good news is I hated it so much, I lost the weight very quickly afterwards as I really didn't want to feel like that any more.

I get some women love it, or are all just bump. I wasn't one of them either, I resembled the beast who ate Bolton.

validusername1 · 19/04/2018 18:25

Oh my god the piles!
Yes I agree I think it's the hot weather, I'm bloody exhausted

Don't worry, it's just temporary. I gained quite a lot of weight in pregnancy and had SPD so couldn't get around much, so lost lots of muscle tone. I felt hideous in the last trimester.

Within 24 hours of giving birth my tummy was flat again (just a bit wrinkly and stretched). I used a post natal support band (belly bandit), seemed to help it all go back to normal. I breastfed and all the extra weight came off within a month. Went to Pilates and post natal fit classes and walked a lot with the pram.

If you exercise and eat sensibly I don't see any reason why you won't snap back into shape. I'm more toned now than pre pregnancy.

It’s so sad that the current obsession with thin means so many people are not enjoying pregnancy. I didn’t like it much either, but tha5 wasn’t to do with my ass looking like it should ‘be pulling a cart’ whatever that means. OP your stomach isn’t bloated, that’s your baby.

SandyY2K · 19/04/2018 18:27

I'm sure the hot weather is adding to it. I had an August baby and it was exhausting being pregnant in the heat.

kaytee87 · 19/04/2018 18:29

@Bluntness100 I did the same thing in my garden, with my feet in a bucket of cold water. No one warned me that your skin is more sensitive to the sun when pregnant so I got burnt to top it all off.

willynillypie · 19/04/2018 18:31

Am 28 weeks and I really feel you - doesn't help that everyone likes to make the classic "are you sure you aren't having twins?!" "No way you have 3 months to go" and, my favourite, " you're huge". Someone joked that they would get me a slimming world membership as a baby gift. I was size 6-8 before pregnancy and now I just feel like an all-over walrus. You are not alone!!!!

willynillypie · 19/04/2018 18:34

kaytee87

Me neither - am currently surnburnt.

I don't think it's to do with any current obsession - it's more about the overall weight your body gains to deal with pregnancy and provide fat stores for breastfeeding, and how this in of itself can be a shock/quite uncomfortable. We are constantly shown films where pregnancy entails a bump and no other gain! Colour me surprised when my thighs doubled in size and I had been eating reasonably. FML.

Bluntness100 · 19/04/2018 18:37

Kay tee, made me laugh. All my clothes were awful too as I refused to buy anything bigger.🤣

Cardi, it's not about the "current obsession with thin". My daughter is now 20. I clearly remember the discomfort of being so large in the summer heat. And if you're normally quite slim, your drastically altered appearance can come as a bit of a shock to you. And not a pleasant one. Not everyone loves it. I certainly didn't. And it certainly wasn't about fashion. In addition it's really uncomfortable. Hard to sleep, sweaty feeling, and just big and lumbering.
