Starting to Freak Out Over Lost School Application..

A4710Rider · 17/04/2018 09:48

Hi, sorry, but I'm freaking out a little here.

My ex partner and I co parent, she's just rang to say that the Council had never received or has lost our son's primary school application.

He's in Reception at the moment and it's a Welsh language school, he'll be distraught if he as to get somewhere else and so will me and his mum.

Does anyone know what the next steps are? My ex has a really stressful job and I know she must be in pain because of the muck up.

Any advice would be greatfully received, thank you.

I'm confused....If he is already in reception how come he needs to do the application again? I thought it was only done at the reception stage to get him into reception? You don't have to re-apply to go into year one.

LoudBatPerson · 17/04/2018 09:51

How was the application submitted, online or by post?

If by post did you get proof of postage. If online did you save the reference number?

Tallace · 17/04/2018 09:53

If he is in reception you dont need to apply again. Is he in nursery? How old is he?

A4710Rider · 17/04/2018 09:53

Kids,

You do in Wales and for this school, crazy I know.

Loud,

My wife submitted the application by post I believe, I don't think she would have thought to get proof.

He's already in reception - you don't have to reapply to get into year one?

Why on earth would he have to leave?

A4710Rider · 17/04/2018 09:54

Tallace,

He's in nursery in the morning and Reception in the afternoon. he's 4, 5 in September.

This is very odd? I’ve never heard of a child being half in nursery, half in reception?

A4710Rider · 17/04/2018 09:58

Kirsten,

It's what we do in Wales, it's an brilliant system really.

GeorgieTheGorgeousGoat · 17/04/2018 09:58

Sounds like he’s bit in reception but they merge the group in the afternoons due to ratios.

You’ll probably be allocated a school that has a space available. It won’t necessarily be your choice though.

GeorgieTheGorgeousGoat · 17/04/2018 09:58

*not

A4710Rider · 17/04/2018 10:01

Obviously I'm just complaining because I'm sad but it's going to break all of our hearts if he as to go to a non-Welsh language school. There are still really excellent other schools around but he loves it so much there.

Feel like a really bad dad.

For all the posters questioning the OP, Wales is very different to England.

I can't help, OP sorry, as I'm the wrong side of the border and only have English experience. If Mumsnet isn't helpful, are there any local Facebook parent sites that may be able to help you? Ours is really active and very helpful. Good luck!

CheshireSplat · 17/04/2018 10:02

And is your Welsh medium school usually full? Fingers crossed it isn't...

A4710Rider · 17/04/2018 10:03

Thanks Cheshire. Just when you think things are going swimmingly then something comes out of left field and knocks you for 6.

It is a shame you don't have proof of sending as that could be used in your favour for proving that the application hasn't been processed properly.

Have you spoken with the education department, what are they suggesting?

I imagine he will be given a place at a school but of course this may be a different school. There are some people on here who are whizzes at appeals and might be able to advise if you have grounds, maybe repost in the education topic and they might spot it and give some advise.

A4710Rider · 17/04/2018 10:03

Yes, it's the most popular Welsh school in the area, I doubt we've got any chance really.

OP posts:
TSSDNCOP · 17/04/2018 10:06

It’s clearly different in Wales.

OP: who processes the application? Have they confirmed non receipt.

Can your School help?

A4710Rider · 17/04/2018 10:07

TSS,

It's the council, my ex hadn't heard anything so she rang them up and then they gave her the news.

I feel for her so much right now, she's going to be in bits.

OP posts:
TSSDNCOP · 17/04/2018 10:08

If they only expect the apps by post, there must be cases of non-receipt.

TSSDNCOP · 17/04/2018 10:09

Ok, how far past the cut off are you? Have they started allocating yet?

Heartofglass12345 · 17/04/2018 10:11

I think its different for welsh schools, not the whole of Wales, as I'd never heard of a child going to nursery all day until mine started in a welsh school at 3yrs and was there 9-3 every day!
We live in RCT though and applications are done online, much more reassuring than by post as you get a confirmation email and you can log in to your account and check the status of your application.
Have they admitted it's their error, or are they saying they've never even received it? Must be so frustrating for you!

A4710Rider · 17/04/2018 10:15

TSS,

I don't honestly know, I found out this morning when I got an email from my Ex.

Heart,

I'm not sure, I'm just panicing like an idiot.

spiderlight · 17/04/2018 10:15

TSSDNCOP primary allocations went out yesterday.

Notso · 17/04/2018 10:19

I'm in Wales and have never heard of a school doing half nursery and half reception.
We have to apply online an you get an email confirming your applications been received.

A4710Rider · 17/04/2018 10:20

Notso,

We're in Cardiff.
