To expect a refund or exchange from Clarks?

Had DD's feet measured and bought new school shoes. She's worn them for one day and I've just noticed they are half a size smaller than what she was measured at. They cost me £40. Surely it's their mistake? Or maybe I should have checked the size, it just didn't occur to me to do so.

Clark’s should of checked them , checked growing room, sometimes shoes come up bigger or smaller.

Hellywelly10 · 16/04/2018 21:14

Take them back. Sounds like a human error. They didnt advise to go with a smaller pair did they?

jaimelannistersgoldenhand · 16/04/2018 21:17

Happened to me and I got a refund. Bought at John Lewis after that.

I used to work for Clarks many moons ago and the size the feet are measured at is really just a starting point. The shoes should have been fitted and checked for growing room, adequate width and no slipping. Sometimes a smaller size than the measurement is necessary but the fitter should have explained everything they were doing and why a smaller size fit better. Pretty poor customer service if they didn't!

Busytizzy · 16/04/2018 21:27

Thanks all. I wasn't told that she was trying a smaller size size for a better fit. She was measured at a 1.5, she already has a size 1 pair. The member of staff fitted them, told me I could go up to a 2 if I wanted more growing room, but that they might be a not too loose. Which makes me think she didn't knowingly sell me a size 1.

At our Clark’s they measure and fill in a little slip then they check if they fit and then sign the slip, If you don’t want them to check the fit then they don’t ‘sign them off’ as fitting.
I think they would probs use this as their way of getting out of your situation?!
I would still take them back - just be prepared for them to say something like this! Don’t say that she’s worn them - just make sure they are clean and say that she tried them on again at home and you realised they are wrong size.

OnTheRise · 16/04/2018 21:30

I'd take them back and ask for them to check the fit. Clarks is usually good at helping their customers.

Starlight2345 · 16/04/2018 21:34

Are her old shoes worn out because I wouldn’t buy a pair of shoes for 1/2 a size

chickywoo · 16/04/2018 21:37

Ha agree with starlight too! I especially wouldn’t be buying them at this time of year it will be sandal time in a few weeks!! then 6 long weeks off where their feet will grow Grin

Take them back, they should Exchange. My DH took DD1 to buy new shoes from Clarks, shoes she came home in were a G fit rather than the E she had been measured at. She’d worn them in the garden by the time I realised how loose they were. But we took them back and they exchanged with no quibble at all, they were actually very apologetic.

Busytizzy · 16/04/2018 21:41

She had big winter boots in a 1, so I've bought shoes in an attempt to get through to next winter without paying out again! Which is why I'm a bit cross about this, I don't want her to outgrow these before she has to. My problem is that we live more than 100 miles from the shops, so I can't just pop back for them to check the fit. I will, however, be there alone tomorrow for an appointment, so I guess all I can do is go in and ask.

I think they have a 3 week rule and you will get money back

But I now don’t rate Clarke’s. That happened me a couple of times, staff Young and not properly trained, raised eye brows when I have asked for a second opinion and not good with children. I now go to Charles clinkard. Always get second measurements, better styles, fantastic with kids, have children’s changing facilities and ... balloons. They also cost the same price and you get a card to accrue points

Maryann1975 · 16/04/2018 21:52

Never mind what size the shoes are. Do they fit her feet? Different shoes fit in different ways and sometimes different styles come up slightly different sizes. It’s not ideal, but it’s the way that it is.
