Chore charts

What chores do you have your kids doing around the house? My ds is 12 and is responsible for his own room- cleaning, mopping, changing bed etc however he wants to step up pocket money. So my question is what jobs around the house are deemed 'reasonable' for a 12 year old? I personally don't see why he can't start helping out with everything! My plan is to have at least 2 jobs a day and the weekend off- I think that's fair!?

I don’t love tying in chores to cash, but you could put a cash value to chores over and above what is reasonable to expense of him as a member of the family.

So I wouldn’t pay him for loading the dishwasher, but I would happily pay for him to power hose the paths. I wouldn’t pay him vacuum his room, but I’d happily pay him for doing my room.

I also wouldn’t allow him to ‘earn’ from extra chores until he has completed his ‘family member responsibilities’.

Totally agree- he doesn't 'earn' from keeping his room tidy as it is his space so this is why I'm a bit stuck on what jobs he can do for pocket money if that makes sense! Thank you for your reply!!

What about prepping things for meals? Ie chopping veg, setting the table etc
Or clearing up after everyone has eaten.
Doing loads of washing, hanging it out on the line etc
Washing the car when the weather is abit nicer

Oooo perfect!!! Hadn't thought about the washing or the car! I usually do slow cooking but he could always do the prep for the next day! Perfect thank you!! X
