Blatantly putting here for traffic sorry.
Sil got her car 4 years ago she has just put it through it's mot with stoneacre where she purchased it from.It passed but has been given a lot of advisories, fair enough she thought ..they quoted her 900 pounds to fix the long list of things needed doing.
Since then a family friend who is a part time mechanic has been onto a site where you can see forms posted to the DVLA from stoneacre etc by entering the cars reg number. There is 1 advisory on there something that would cost a few pounds. It is an official document does this mean that whoever advised her that her car needed a lot of fixing was hoping to pocket a hell of a lot of cash?!

I thought you could only see failures and reasons for failures.

Yes - I think you need to understand if there's a difference between that and advisories - the name suggests they are just recommendations rather than necessities?

Advisories are either there or they aren’t. Google MOT history check and you can view it all on the government website, you just need the reg and make. It may be that they gave her some verbal advisories on items that either aren’t testable or haven’t yet reached the stage that they officially need to be recorded.

Advisories are also issued at the discretion of the mechanic. It's a heads up as opposed to more.

Maybe they couldn't be arsed typing it all in to the database (if it exists).

Thanks all.I don't drive so none of this means anything to me all I know is that she's got a paper copy of list of advisories and online there is one

I think it sounds even less suspicious as they gave her proof of work which may need doing in the future.

If they were trying to fleece her then they'd have probably done it verbally.

QueenOfMyWorld · 16/04/2018 11:24

I'm glad about that as she's been worrying
