People camping outside the Lindo wing

AIBU to find this quite a weird thing to do? As far as I know, the due date of the Cambridge’s third child hasn’t been released. So the people camping (in the rain) might be there for weeks, in the hope of getting a glimpse of the Duchess of Cambridge and her third child.

They were interviewing a young girl there on Friday. I bet she's gutted she's back to school tomorrow.

MidnightAura · 15/04/2018 23:09

That's really sad!

theliverpoolone · 15/04/2018 23:11

I heard them talking on the news the other day about the Duke of Edinburgh being released from hospital, then a few mins later saw a report on all these people camping outside - and thought for a few very baffling minutes that they were waiting for him Confused Grin Grin.

Wait, I tried staring at the doors again and saw THIS anagram.

There's an L missing but what the L.

To make Door Watching more *interesting, anyone got a better one?

*It's still not interesting, obviously

I don't think it's going to massively impact on Kate as I don't think they ever see her on the way in! They just see her on the way out which they could probably do without bothering to camp out. Or I don't know, send her good vibes though the walls or something...

It just seems like an odd and pointless thing to do. Really uncomfortable and miserable.

sockunicorn · 15/04/2018 23:32

i wish i had the time, inclination and energy to go and camp on a major London street for 2 weeks!! Who can do that? dont they have kids/jobs/lives?? And why would you want to? They'll announce the babies birth in due time. book time off work, a babysitter and sit in your warm house refreshing twitter every 3 seconds if youre that desperate to know when he/shes born. im so confused.

blackteasplease · 15/04/2018 23:33

A royal poo correspondent really wouldn't surprise me at this rate.

CruCru · 16/04/2018 12:16

Do you think people reserve “their spot” and then get shirty when they go to the loo / shops and someone else takes it?

Weird, but (hopefully) harmless. It is quite intrusive and I like the D&DoC, (as far as it’s possible to like complete strangers), but I wouldn’t be wheeling out the sad faces tbh. This comes with the territory, (unlike taking pics of her breasts through long range photo lenses or whatever it was).

ohfourfoxache · 16/04/2018 12:37

It’s a pain in the arse for the people who work there. It actually gets quite busy with people, especially when you have to jump out of the way of ambulances and there are people lining the fucking pavements (A&E is opposite and a little bit down from the front of the Lindo). And that’s even without the bloody spectators Hmm

Fabulouslyrich · 16/04/2018 13:14

Very sad that people think waiting for a real live view of Kate and her newborn is worth more than the time ,they are wasting out of their own lives, they will never get back, all so they can wait on the pavement to see a stranger and her baby.
Not the full packet of crackers in my opinion. And I’m sure Kate would rather walk out of the hospital with her baby, without the crowd of grabby gawking strangers who she couldn’t give a shit about.

Blobby10 · 16/04/2018 13:35

Waiting outside the LW isn't something I'd do but if it makes these people happy, it doesn't seem to be harming anyone? I dont know that area of London (or London in general!) so no idea if there are private homes or businesses in the vicinity which are disrupted.

Didn't Kate get smuggled in last time during the early hours and no-one realised she was there til the birth announcement? Then it was chaos as the TV crews and reporters descended on the hospital as they came out with Charlotte after only a couple of hours?

bookworm14 · 16/04/2018 13:39

They're a pain in the bum. I was at St Mary's for an appointment last week and struggled to get into the entrance (main entrance is directly opposite the Lindo) because of all the bloody barriers they'd put up for the spectators. Get a life, I say.

BlooperReel · 16/04/2018 13:55

For all the Kay Burley fans Grin

sentenceinterrupted · 16/04/2018 14:00

I gave birth in same hospital at same time as last baby (not lindo wing). Spectators are pretty much all near the main hospital entrance which makes getting in that way a faff, but don't really disrupt too much else. Had to explain why I was going in to the maternity ward to a police officer (I was 41 weeks pregnant). Had been in and out of hospital a lot in last week due to complications). Basically tried to go into labour while at hospital by doing a lot of walking, but only in the actual hospital due to aforementioned complications). Several ways into the lindo wing, but discrete special service blokes checking them (sorry, don't know what they're called). I found it far less intrusive than I thought it would be (the event plus the spectators that is)

Akire · 16/04/2018 14:02

Yes you can get to Linda via hallway from main hospital anyway. Plus other ways no doubt. It’s not like going get her panting climbing out of their 4x4.

ohfourfoxache · 16/04/2018 15:10

They seem to forget that it’s a working bloody hospital. And the point of a hospital? To make people better. So their voyeurism is actually a massive inconvenience for people who have to be there because, you know, they’re not well

(Can you tell that they piss me off a bit?)

ForalltheSaints · 16/04/2018 18:39

I didn't get that when I was born in St Mary's Hospital!

CruCru · 23/04/2018 10:31

Oh well, the campers won’t have all that long a wait now. The BBC said that the Duchess of Cambridge is now at the hospital.
