Sorry just posting here for quick traffic.

My 2 yo just slipped and banged his he'd on the edge of the tv cabinet (pretty hard) it didn't bleed and he seems ok, wanted to carry on running around laughing, massive lump and immediate bruise though.
Was just about to put him to bed, should I wait a while? What would you do?

I took my 6 year old in with a huge bump
Above her eye and was told it was better to get it looked at Incase they did go down hill later so they have something to reference against. Concussion can take longer to set in than people think.

It is your judgement call though. If you think he needs to be seen then get him seen.

Mine ran full tilt into the edge of sil dining table last year. He was fine apart from a good bruise under his eye. (don't know how he missed the bright table cloth).
If he's lost consciousness, puked or is not his usual self take him in.

lizzlebizzle33 · 15/04/2018 18:56

No loss of consciousness or puking, he's happy and chatty as usual, just with this big lump on his forehead 😩

I think if you're concerned then call 111 for advice. It's what they're there for.

I think concussion takes a while to come on (mine took a day). If he isn't listless, drowsy, disorientated or 'off' he probably fine. Did he cry when he bumped it?

DD was a little head-on rocket when he was tiny and just bounced head first at everything. He's OK I think - he's a teen now, so who can tell?

Grilledaubergines · 15/04/2018 18:59

I’m not one for just in case hospital visits generally but bad bumps in the head would worry me and I’d be inclined to go.

AsAProfessionalFekko · 15/04/2018 19:00

Yes - I did mean to say - if in any doubt go to A&E. We've been there a couple of times for head bumps and he's always been fine (only superglued once).

BarbieBrightSide · 15/04/2018 19:02

Why do head injuries always occur just before bed?!

Last time one of mine had a bump (a proper big egg lump on his head) I rang 111 and they told me to make sure he could be roused while he was asleep, so I set an alarm for every hour and gave him a bit of a prod to make sure he was responding. He was fine, but weirdly the swelling spread down his nose over the next few days and he did look very odd

lizzlebizzle33 · 15/04/2018 19:03

He did cry but not for long, just got up and now he's running around again.
Thank for your replies, I'll leave him up a little longer and keep an eye on him.x

When my little one banged his head the other year and went drowsy and fell asleep (was due a nap though anyway) I rang 111 for advice and she said the sleeping wasn't a real problem it was whether they could be roused easily.
I agree it's always before bedtime when they give their heads a huge wallop!
I would keep up for a bit too and just keep checking later on. Make him move about in his sleep by giving him a little prod .

AsAProfessionalFekko · 15/04/2018 19:07

Poor wee thing. Did you get an ice pack on it? Ds got a doozy of a black eye whwn the stupid dog at the shop near to us decided to jump at his face (scratched him just under the eye but managed to hire my hand as I put it between his teeth and DSs face).

He enjoyed telling everyone that the dog gave him the shiner.

That reminds me - it happened right outside a doctors surgery and the gits inside refused to give me anything to stop the bleeding or anything to clean the cut with.

StepAwayFromGoogle · 15/04/2018 19:07

I fell off the bed holding DD when she was about 6 months old (don't ask). She screamed the place down and was sick once. Even then the paramedics said they only usually take them in for a check if they were unconscious at any point and sick multiple times. Only reason DD was taken in was that they couldn't be sure I hadn't fallen ON her (despite the fact that I was sure I hadn't). Hope that reassures you but if not call 111...

UniqueAsAUnicorn · 15/04/2018 19:08

Ring 111. Think if it's larger than x amount of cm (can't remember the exact amount, just remember trying to measure DS's bump at 11 months when he ran forehead first into a corner) then you will need to go to A&E.
