Aibu to think Jamie Oliver is a hypocrite after reading this! Jamie Oliver admits that he would let his children eat McDonald's - The Telegraphapple.news
Apologies, not sure how to do link! 😐

Very smug too , he knows his children eat well at home!

Rinceoir · 15/04/2018 17:40

I don’t see a problem. Everything in moderation. Different if it’s a daily thing.

TheSpottedZebra · 15/04/2018 17:41

Not a hypocrite in my opinion - he said things like McD are fine in moderation, given that his children eat a good diet overall.

ilovejeffgoldblum · 15/04/2018 17:42

That's the thing though isn't it with his campaign, he can practice moderation but feels no one else can apparently!

RitaMills · 15/04/2018 17:42

His kids probably do eat well at home so a cheeseburger here or there isn’t going to do them any harm, not sure why you thing that is smug? Everything in moderation is a good attitude to have IMO.

Mightymucks · 15/04/2018 17:44

Jamie Oliver is a crashingly unpleasant snob who trades off the idea that the poor are poor because they are stupid and feckless and too stupid to feed their children properly. He is a massive hypocrite who makes money from flogging expensive unhealthy food to middle class people because he believes their wealth proves that they are morally capable of making decisions about food when the poor are not.

This is entirely in keeping with his schtick.

TheSpottedZebra · 15/04/2018 17:45

Not sure what you mean, jeff - he's not said ban McD or sugary drinks. He's saying don't advertise them during programmes aimed at young kids, and that people, people put to consume unhealthy things in moderation rather then in excess.

FourFriedChickensDryWhiteToast · 15/04/2018 17:45

so what , every sane parent knows that the odd cheeseburger is fine if they are generally eating well. which they will be, obvs.

It's a bit like Nigella's children having takeaways, the main difference is that people are actually fond of Nigella, where they are not particularly of JO.

ilovejeffgoldblum · 15/04/2018 17:45

I agree with moderation, my dcs don't like squash or fizzy drinks . I still don't agree with a sugar ban !

OP posts:
littlepill · 15/04/2018 17:49

He wouldn’t flog anything if it wasn’t for his children. Every single article.... they must be sick of being their Daddy’s Brand!

ilovejeffgoldblum · 15/04/2018 17:49

What I'm trying to say ( rather badly ) is it's fine for him to have the choice and to exercise moderation, but every one else needs to be lectured. This is just my personal opinion and feelings about jo , maybe others feel differently!

OP posts:
FourFriedChickensDryWhiteToast · 15/04/2018 17:53

yes i agree about the lecturing.
I had small children at school at the time, so the school dinners campaign was well needed and much appreciated.

After that though, i thought he had a bloody cheek to be lecturing poor mothers on how to feed their children on a budget, while at the same time punting a range of goods (really basic stuff like pasta) that were double the normal price because they had a picture of his smug face on. Cheeky fucker.

No yanbu! The man got rid of turkey twizzlers! DP loves Jamie, my kids love him too. I am still traumatised by life without those unhealthy, grimy, dirty twizzlers!

Tainrainrain · 15/04/2018 18:05

Schools dinners in Greenwich were appalling before Jamie Oliver. After they were massively better. He has a food charity which trains underprivileged kids to be chefs and you can get all his recipes free online so you don’t even need to buy his books.
What he said was he wouldn’t stop them having the odd McDonalds but his wife might object.
He is right about most things and his recipes are fantastic.
So you are wrong.

ilovejeffgoldblum · 15/04/2018 18:05

All that business in America too! What was he thinking, after all he's just a chef , nobody likes being lectured .
I can't remember where I heard this , but often comes to mind
" you can't take someone's right to be an asshole away! "

YABU. Everyone's a hypocrite in one way or another.

Hes done wonders in teaching me how to cook cheap and healthy for my family - I was raised on turkey twizzlers and was obese at 13. Wish my mum had followed his recipes! I do now and my family are all normal weight.

A McDonald’s is a rare treat and is good for his kids too - it’s teaching them no food is taboo which will only be good for them. If you don’t like him, don’t watch him.

ilovejeffgoldblum · 15/04/2018 18:07

I guess he's marmite rain , you either like him or you don't ( I don't as you can tell! )

OP posts:
ilovejeffgoldblum · 15/04/2018 18:09

Glad for you white , I don't watch him, haven't for years , will turn over when he comes on . But this was on my news feed!
