Birthday stuff

In a couple of weeks time I will be on holiday. While I am away it will be my birthday and a 'big' one - my Dad knows I will be away almost a week before my birthday.
The usual routine - is he will phone on my birthday and suggest we go out - he doesn't live nearby. Am I being unreasonable to think that if he is going to send a card he should send it before my birthday? I know this probably does sound unreasonable - but to me 'birthday' cards are just that - after the event is another thing altogether.
His partner likes to remind me that 'birthdays' are not a 'thing' - so I don't really have any great expectations!

I take a week off work for my birthday! But then we do go far away cause no fucker ever bothers to even remember (think most of my pals must be mumsnetters) 😂

On the other hand though some are quite traditional about cards only on or after the birthday. Others are lazy like me and although I celebrate the death out of all my loved ones birthdays doesn't mean I've not gone and got your card an hour before I visit.Confused except dh. I get his the day before.

My dh takes a week off for his birthday and I don't find it vain. I do find it unusual amongst adults and that was what my post said. I'm not 'anti birthday' but I am pro-realism and it would be a good idea for the op, like I suggested, to be a bit realistic about how significantly other peoples birthdays are to adults in the absence of the birthday celebrator making them so. I did however, concede that her own father should realise how important the big day is to her and send a card accordingly.

What a bloody miserable bunch! No OP, it is absolutely not unreasonable to expect a birthday card from your dad before / on the day of your birthday. And if I knew someone was going away, I’d try to get it to them beforehand. Hope you have a WONDERFUL big birthday 😊... don’t let these lot get you down, everyone jumps on a bandwagon x
