Has the series finished? We'd just discovered this it was fab - made by the same people who made the Teletubbies.

It isn't made for grownups - you are being very unreasonable!

powder28 · 12/05/2007 19:50

I liked the first bit with that thing on the boat and upsy daisys song, but the rest was a bit mental

Monkeytrousers · 12/05/2007 19:50

in the night garden

talcygoneorange · 12/05/2007 19:51

Monkeytrousers · 12/05/2007 19:51

Monkeytrousers · 12/05/2007 19:54

flightattendant · 12/05/2007 19:59

macca pacca, now was that creature some humorous reference to Paul Mc Cartney or am I just mentally disturbed??

handlemecarefully · 13/05/2007 15:58

Really monkeytrousers? - Saints preserve us (baulks at 100 more episodes)

ZipadiSuzy · 13/05/2007 17:01

We really miss it, I have 3yo twins, they loved it, they giggled cause they found it entertaining, and the rhyming side of it I would have thought educational, even though the names don't mean anything!

Its only the 'names' of the characters that were funny!

I think they are trying to make children too serious these days, why can't they have a giggle over a silly programme! its not going to have any damaging effects!

COME BACK 'IN THE NIGHT GARDEN'

handlemecarefully · 13/05/2007 19:50

I suppose that my objection is that I sometimes like to watch childrens tv companionably alongside my children (3 & 4 yrs)...but this programme wants to make me extract my own brains with a blunt toothpick

handlemecarefully · 13/05/2007 19:50

'makes me want to'

Dragonhart · 13/05/2007 19:55

Not at all. My ds was scared of it! I put it on a couple of times and he ran over to sit next to me saying 'off, off!'

I dont really see why childrens programs have to be so dumb. Why cant they just use normal words?

hifi · 13/05/2007 20:03

i have sky + it until it comes out on dvd, which is usually a year. my dd asks for it by saying iggle piggle, we are also quite rude by calling macca pacca Knacker cracker.

Fancyabollypats · 14/05/2007 20:29

I only ever watched it once with DD3, out of curiosity. Described it to DH later as a cross between Teletubbies, the Woodentops and Looby Loo, all having recently consumed some extremely hallucinagenic substances...

lucyellensmum · 15/05/2007 15:01

AWEN!!! blaspheming again, you are asking to be stoned!

Loved it, cant wait for it to be back, DP would sit and do the hand thing with dd. Now when DD is upset she comes to me with her hand out, only yesterday did i realise she wanted me to do round and round on her hand, dried up bit lip tears in no time.

BRING BACK THE NIGHTGARDEN

lucyellensmum · 15/05/2007 15:03

dragonhart, that whole number jacks thing looks a bit scary to me. I don't think that programs like this are dumb, they cant be, dd can take or leave other telly but loved the night garden, transfixed. She has speech delay but was able to make some of the sounds. I personally think these programs are far from dumb as they really tune into childrens pysches, hmmm, i'm making it sound sinister now, i'll shut up.

Dragonhart · 15/05/2007 21:10

Lucy - I think these programmes are dumb. I only let my ds watch tv if I am there so I am subjected to anything he watches!

It is great if it helps you dd with her speech but I still think it is a pile of crap.

My current favs are Peppa Pig, Bear in the Big blue house, and Come outside!

They are all programmes which seem to have real life relevence instead of a load of gobbledygook(sp?) (they are also humourous and have interesting facts for me. Yest I learnt how bread was made for Safeway and afew weeks ago how they get juice in cartons. )

Dragonhart · 15/05/2007 21:11

Sorry when I said I I ment as opposed to my ds not you.

christie1 · 15/05/2007 21:27

sorry but I loved it. Me and my ds are very upset it is gone. Why did they take it off anyway?

flutterbee · 15/05/2007 21:41

I loved it so does DS, its the only programme he watches.

I've emailed the BBC to see when it's coming back on but they never replied.

lucyellensmum · 15/05/2007 22:07

dragonheart, i dont know how old your son is, but the nightgarden is aimed at the very young and the whole repetitive simple concept is so they can keep up. I think it encourages the formation of sounds, there are very few actual words but i have taken notice and the words that are used are repeated over and over. Ive not seen pepper pig or bear in the big blue house. We do like come outside (the dog is cute and i now know all about how brooms and pencils are made!). I don't tend to allow the tv much either, but dd just loves to sit with daddy and watch the night garden. He is a huge fan (he is a man!). The SALT that visited dd was keen on the night garden too, i think it is brilliant, inspired even.

Now as for lazytown, don't get me started, can't be doing with that. Brilliant program on in the mornings though at the moment called open a door, it runs at more or less the same format each day where a child opens the door and goes out to play, the difference being that it is in different countries, fascinating, it does have a bit of a sesame street feel though, but i can live with that.

Snowstorm · 15/05/2007 22:13

Lucyellesmum - 'Open a Door' sounds good, what channel and at what time is that on?

Yacketyblah · 15/05/2007 22:14

I hated it at first but dd loves it, then I came to love it. It's very very silly - and I like a bit of silly.

bobsmum · 15/05/2007 22:21

Open a Door is nice - haven't seen that for ages!

We all love the Night Garden here! I was to start with but I get it now. It's very reminscent of Oliver Postgate stuff I think.

Just daft. Noggin the Nog/Ninky Nonk
tiny Clanger/Upsy Daisy - all innocent and simple and engaging for a 2 ish year old.

Although my 4 y o ds loved it too. Thankfully he can now play the theme tune on the piano as well as the Tittyfur's song, so dd (23 mths) puts in regular requests and has been kept happy during the long, hard Night Garden drought.

I supsect that the Cbeebies run was a trial. It's been a massive success ( I think) and they're holding back for a big launch in the summer to coincide with the merchandise launch in July.

I am so queueing for a Ninky Nonk.

Dragonhart · 16/05/2007 10:59

Lucy- I hate Lazytown too, but ds loves it! Open a door does sound good but I tend to keep the telly for when I am bf my dd (ds is 21months and dd is 4 1/2 months) an it is not on then

He does love Razzle Dazzle. Finds it absolutly hilarious

What is a SALT? Is it a speach therapist? If so then just goes to show what I know
