WIBU to return some melamine picnic plates to B&M as "unfit for purpose" because I can't get the bastarding labels off?

They were £1 each, and I know that's not exactly a king's ransom but it's SO annoying. It happens all the time, on a variety of items, and not just B&M. Why can't manufacturers use easy-peel labels?

Have you tried rubbing them off with a baby wipe, sorry if that sounds a bit odd. But it usually works.

Try putting a cotton pad soaked in vodka (or any other type of high alcohol spirit) on the labels for ten mins, then run with cotton pad

bluebiro · 15/04/2018 12:12

I agree - it's really annoying! You need this, which has never failed me so far: www.lakeland.co.uk/8976/Sticky-Stuff-Glue-Residue-and-Oil-Remover-250ml

Angrybird345 · 15/04/2018 12:19

Try deoudourant or hairspray!

FineSally · 15/04/2018 12:29

thanks for the suggestions! already tried alcohol (no joy) and my baby wipes are the alcohol-free ones & aren't any good either.

I've had them soaking in white vinegar for a couple of hours & I'm not sure whether it's helped or not, but the residue still isn't coming off easily..

Now off to search the garage for some WD40. I may be some time.

Methylated spirits works brilliantly in my experience

Knittedfairies · 15/04/2018 13:11

I’ve got some brilliant sticky stuff remover called...erm... ‘Sticky Stuff Remover’. I’ve seen it in Aldi or Lidl’s.

dementedpixie · 15/04/2018 13:13

Desolv-it pre wash spray also works for sticky labels

Kaydogsdinner · 15/04/2018 13:42

White spirit

sadeyedladyofthelowlands63 · 15/04/2018 14:05

Lighter fuel works!

possumgoddess · 15/04/2018 16:42

Just use a little bit of oil, that gets most labels off. Cooking oil is fine.

ALongHardWinter · 15/04/2018 18:35

Methylated spirit never fails IME.

littlepill · 15/04/2018 18:37

Someone recommended a but of cooking oil to me & it has always worked, but I agree, an annoying thing to deal with!

MissusGeneHunt · 15/04/2018 18:38

Avon's 'Skin so soft' gets all sorts of stuff removed.... Clearly up there with the meths and WD40... slightly worrying.... Confused

summersmith · 15/04/2018 18:39

I agree with the oil suggestion.

Seeline · 15/04/2018 18:40

Yes to lighter fuel.

SomethingNarstyInTheWoodshed · 15/04/2018 18:40

Mayonnaise.

TicketyBoo83 · 15/04/2018 18:54

make a paste with equal parts oil and bicarb of soda. Put over sticky part and leave half an hour. Should wipe off with a damp cloth.

DontCallMeCharlotte · 15/04/2018 18:56

I second (third?) WD40.

FineSally · 16/04/2018 10:13

Thanks for the suggestions. WD40 worked a treat, though the kitchen stank of it! Next time I'll try the cooking oil and/or mayo first, on the grounds that it'll smell better!

DontCallMeCharlotte · 16/04/2018 12:56

Oh I love the smell of WD40!

The labels are deliberately sticky to stop people changing them in store. But I also love WD40 so don’t mind.

IHaveACuntingPlan · 16/04/2018 13:24

I use that antibacterial hand gel stuff to get the stickers off the fridge that the dc put on there. I just rub it in for minute or two and then it comes on.
