AIBU to ask well-dressed women: how comes you are welldressed?

This might be a stupid question. I noticed that there are some women who are like naturally born welldressed. How did you acquire this skill or were you really born with this?

I am currently in process of changing my wardrobe, I had my colors done, spend a lot on clothes lately but still not happy with the result.

Bewilderment: My occupation is stay at home mum lol, but nevertheless I like to be welldressed.
My dh always looks so welldressed and great. Actually he lets me pick his clothes, but he wears them with style and he looks great while I do not... he lost some weight and looks even better now.

Eeek, the thread only updated just now and I spotted your response much higher up OP. If you like historical styles and have a slim figure then for example the Forties would really suit you. It’s a simple and easy look that can really be pulled off for every day use, including even jeans and little jumpers. Or there are the Twenties, which again were about having a gamine kind of look. Those are styles that are easily achieved even shopping in contemporary stores. There are many affordable retro brands like Collectif, Freddies of Pinewood for 40s and 50s jeans and trousers, Rocket Original or Penahouse for repro shoes, SwellDameBoutique on Etsy, or Vivian of Holloway etc. MariaAguye on Etsy makes really well-made clothes, albeit a bit pricier but I have seen first-hand at many events just how well they fit, as they are made to order.

Hahahaha BananasAreTheSourceOfEvil My friends do open my wardrobes to look. I have small feet, so they don't ask to try them. It also means that I tend to find many vintage shoes that are deadstock, i.e. unworn. I have custom-built my own large doors for all my cupboards that double up as narrow shoe cupboards to accommodate all of my collection. It means I can find stuff quickly and actually spent little time getting ready. Ditto for bags and shoes.

I always have outfits sorted, so a skirt, top and cardigan for example and shoes that will go with outfit.
I tend to stick with style that suit me, even if they are high fashion. I have a more curvy figure but I’m short. I tend to suit pencil skirt style as opposite to flowing skirt. Dresses need to be more fitted.
I also like to co-ordinate, so I have scarves that will suit certain outfit. I know my bad points, flabby arms (so prefer not to wear sleeveless) if I do I wear it with a light cardigan. I also have a bit of a belly from c section, so I make sure that my outfits draw attention away, so I look more out together.
Admittedly I was very well dressed before having my daughter. When she was a small baby, really it was just clean clothes. Now she is 3. Y wardrobe is coming together again and I have had so many positive comments on how put together I look again.
I also out my choice of outfit out each night, so there is no rush in the morning,

SAHM is tough cuz you need more options than the rest of us.
Chinos/khakis with good pockets tank top and long sleeve T shirt (white cotton so you can bleach them) Your best color big shirt on top. That was my SAHM uniform.

OP, I know you said you prefer skirts but for running around after kids, these kind of 50s outfits with a Balenciaga inspired top, is really stylish and fun, still making you look groomed but being practical and suits especially slimmer women.

Split skirts are the best thing evah! They are not currently in style but they were a must have for me and they wear like iron.

You have to find your own style (so not just black leggings and baggy khaki tops) and be confident in it.

My entire wardrobe is extremely colourful/patterned - for the past few years, my purchases have been mainly from charity or vintage shops, and quite a few self-made things. I'll also alter quite a lot of stuff, like find a skirt in a size 18 and cut it down to my size, or I had a dress that someone spilt candle wax on, so I made it into a skirt.

Also, I know this sounds corny but Trinny and Susannah books are REALLY good. Especially What You Wear Can Change Your Life. My mum went from being frumpy and wearing jeans and jumpers to being really, really stylish.

I'd be well dressed if I had any money to buy nice things. But Tu at Sainsbury's it is for me, I do my best with it.
