Hoop earrings

So. I have a medium sized pair of gold hooped earrings. I haven't worn them for years, probably about 15-20. I'm not sure why exactly but I wonder if I wear them now, I might look, for want of a better word, "chavvy"? I'm early 40s, am I too "old" to wear these in any case?? Thoughts please?

Miss Marple Have you tried bending the catch bit gently when they're out of your ear, so that they slip into place more easily?

MissMarplesKnitting · 14/04/2018 23:33

Nope! Thank you!! I'm a hoop earring virgin Grin

bluelampshades · 14/04/2018 23:34

i'm 50 and wear mine all the time, they pep up an outfit instantly. I don't do creole style but think they look great on the right person, an edgy street style - style being the operative word.

ReggaetonLente · 14/04/2018 23:35

I love my massive hoops! I have some that I could wear round my neck Grin

If you like them OP wear them.

ClaraLaMoine · 14/04/2018 23:37

I wear pretty massive hoop earrings. That being said I have a pretty quirky style so could never be described as chavvy. As long as you don't dress like a 'chav' then I doubt you will look like one.

Fairylea · 14/04/2018 23:37

I love them on others but I always feel ridiculous wearing them myself, like I’m dressed up in my mums clothes- I’m 38 ConfusedHmm

ClaraLaMoine · 14/04/2018 23:39

@thecatfromjapan I also adore this style! I wear these once it twice a week!

SundayGirls · 14/04/2018 23:44

You should wear what you want, but if you are worried about looking dated then I'd be tempted to wear silver rather than gold hoops.

TinklyLittleLaugh · 14/04/2018 23:58

My DD and all her Manchester Uni flat mates wear them. Their style seems to be kinda ironic chavvy though. Plenty of sportswear in the mix.

Fifilafrog · 15/04/2018 00:08

Thanks all for your opinions. Think I might just dust them off then! Like I said, I'm no fashion guru so just wanted some guidance as to whether I might look like a tragic 90s throw back. I loved the 90s though so I'll throw caution to the wind 😂 xx

These are probably my biggest hoops Grin but I'm early 20s.
Yours sound fab!

I'm another with a pixie hair cut and I wear them all the time

WillowWept · 15/04/2018 09:27

I'm not a fan of smaller hoops, but I love big hoops 5cm +

I have a fairly conservative (but like to think stylish) dress sense and often get complimented on the hoops

stopfuckingshoutingatme · 15/04/2018 10:10

Get yourself down a pawn shop - loads of Creoles to be had

I love a hoop

AlonsosLeftPinky · 15/04/2018 10:31

I think hoop earrings are awful.

But I also think everyone should wear whatever they like.

NotACleverName · 15/04/2018 10:34

Just wear whatever jewellery you want, who gives a fuck what anyone else thinks?

Americantan · 15/04/2018 10:40

My 21 yo niece only ever wears hoops, has lots of different types and sizes. Rachel Jackson London do some edgy ones if you want to splash out a bit. But definitely not Creole hoops - never.

Americantan · 15/04/2018 10:45

Re Creole, if Beyoncé wore them they’d look great but in the region I live, they were/are a staple for middle aged matriarchs with big families, often lots of yellow gold rings worn simultaneously. Can be found in Bingo Halls and social clubs.
