Please help. Uti came on suddenly. Always does if I get them. 111 says I'll get a call back within 24 hours Hmm but I'm in agony and feeling unwell.

What can I do?

Walk in centre? Or call 111 back and say your symptoms have escalated and they'll reassess

vampirethriller · 14/04/2018 09:26

Teaspoon of bicarbonate of soda in a pint of water if you've got some. It's not a cure but it makes it hurt less when you go xx

ishouldntsaybut · 14/04/2018 09:27

Can you contact your local pharmacy? I know that some pharmacists can prescribe antibiotics for UTI's.

LEMtheoriginal · 14/04/2018 09:31

They called back - thank God!! Have appointment at 10.30 now just need to persuade nurse to give me trimethoprim. The new ones they give don't work for me but trimethoprim works within hours

The cystitis drinks you can buy from the pharmacy can reduce the pain, but won't treat it obviously.

A midwife I used to work with swore by drinking black coffee for uti's
I suppose it's worth a try

tishhope · 14/04/2018 09:34

Drink, drink, drink water tim you feel like you can't drink any more. Also, take one cranberry tablet (not the juice) daily to help prevent further episodes. Poor you - glad you have an appointment.

Cranberry tabs you can get in superdrugs .

mimibunz · 14/04/2018 09:35

Cranberry juice helps! So sorry you are in pain! UTIs can be wicked.

ShowOfHands · 14/04/2018 09:40

I've suffered with UTIs my whole life and the last few times, the doctors and nurses have changed advice. They all said dont drink lots and lots and lots as it puts stress on an already inflamed system. Drink plenty to ensure dilute urine and a functioning bladder, probably more than usual as you'll be weeing more but don't guzzle.

You know what? It helped.

LEMtheoriginal · 14/04/2018 10:42

Hey showofhands how the devil are ye?

I fucking love the NHS

Seen by lovely nurse and now clutching a lovely prescription for trimethoprim Grin

It's not so dire now as I've drunk 3 pints of water. Nurse was old school so said to drink loads but funnily enough 111 advised drinking normal amounts.

Not much help now you are sorted but I use to get recurrent utis and was sent on to a urologist at the hospital I saw him twice and was put through for urgent urethral dilation and bladder distension! 100% not saying this is what you'll need but might be worth asking as I haven't had one since the op, and that was Nov 15 the bladder distension helped to block pain signals or something! Hope you feel better soon 💕 don't go scaring yourself as everyone's different and you probably won't need that as it is rare just something to keep in mind Thanks also I use to find crossing my legs tightly sat on the edge of a seat really helped the pain and just taking pain relief x

ShowOfHands · 14/04/2018 11:29

Wotcha LEM. I'm well thanks my love.

Fab news on the trimethoprim. They tried me on something else last year as it was a better and preferred option. Noooooo. It did not work. Trimethoprim all the way

Hope you're feeling tickety boo very quickly. Bastard UTIs but brilliant NHS Smile

LEMtheoriginal · 14/04/2018 13:05

Tmh I don't (thankfully) get uti's very often. The last time was nearly two years ago.

Still struggling - but taken my first antibiotic so hopefully will kick in soon
