Call out of hours or wait until monday?

For the past week, I've started suffering with pain in my legs, mostly my right leg and mostly the lower leg. It's worse at night when I am laid in bed and last night was the worst yet.

It's not painful enough to take meds. It's not cramps. No redness, swelling, nothing to see. It's almost like having toothache but in my legs and moving around. No other symptoms except for twitchy right eyelid.

So, do I put up with it and see GP on Monday if it's still happening or would it be unreasonable to contact out of hours?

do you have a minor injuries unit?
i would go there or call out of hours op

HolyMountain · 14/04/2018 08:23

I’m not a medical professional, I’ll state that right hereSmile.

Might it be restless leg syndrome? I’d wait til Monday to be honest.

CollyWombles · 14/04/2018 08:26

I have no idea what it could be really. When I read about restless leg syndrome, it says an irresistible urge to move your legs, I don't have that. They just hurt, almost like flu aches but without the flu part.

It might not be unreasonable to run it past nhs24, just because there's been an initiative in Scotland about preventing clots. They would be best able to advise. I lost a sister to a clot, so I am biased. Try and stay mobile and well hydrated meantime.

Slartybartfast · 14/04/2018 08:28

are you on a diet or anything op?

DancingLedge · 14/04/2018 08:29

No point in minor injuries.
Cause they decline to look at things that are not injuries.

CollyWombles · 14/04/2018 08:32

No diet. I've been off work for two weeks, my job is usually a standing job so I've been sat down a lot more than usual and walking less.

I am on sertraline which has a side effect of restless leg syndrome but I've been on it nearly a year and no dose changes.

I'm 33 and generally healthy. My grandad nearly died from a DVT many years back, however he is an alcoholic.

could it be your varicose veins? if you stand a lot normally?

MissusGeneHunt · 14/04/2018 08:36

I think that Mybabystolemysanity has it, call NHS 24 or 111 for some advice. They would go through the symptoms and advise you best. Hope you get well soon.

Slartybartfast · 14/04/2018 08:37

have you tried raising your legs?

Slartybartfast · 14/04/2018 08:37

agree though, it can't hurt to call

letsdolunch321 · 14/04/2018 08:38

Do you have a walk in clinic/centre nearby. If so, may be worth a visit.

Weezol · 14/04/2018 08:40

GP on Monday, though it sounds like the change of routine might be the cause it's worth a check.

CollyWombles · 14/04/2018 08:40

I don't have varicose veins. I haven't tried elevating my legs, I will give that a go.

Thanks all, I'm a bit of an anxious person which is why I am asking here as I don't want to waste out of hours time unnecessarily.

I was ignoring it for the most and hoping it would just go away but instead it seems to have gotten worse.

sometimes if you change the height of your shoes, it causes calf pain

Slartybartfast · 14/04/2018 08:43

or shin pain also

Piglet23 · 14/04/2018 08:49

Could you be anaemic? That can cause leg pains. Any other symptoms of anaemia?

CollyWombles · 14/04/2018 08:57

I could be anaemic. I have been getting the same sort of pain in legs as headaches on and off. I had the mirena coil removed in December and my AF has gone back to being heavy flow. I was getting dizzy when standing up but that's not as bad now.

Piglet23 · 14/04/2018 09:06

Are you more tired than usual?

Dodie66 · 14/04/2018 09:08

Is it down the front of your legs? It could be shin splints. I get leg pain and the doc diagnosed shin splints

PeterPiperPickedSeaShells · 14/04/2018 09:10

I work in a minor injuries unit & im always surprised by the number of people who come in with pain (anywhere) but haven't taken any painkillers

CollyWombles · 14/04/2018 09:10

It varies, sometimes front, sometimes back, sometimes knee, sometimes ankle, sometimes foot. Rarely thigh.

OP posts:
Slartybartfast · 14/04/2018 09:13

is it worse on walking?

CollyWombles · 14/04/2018 09:46

No it's not present on walking, only when sat or laid down.

OP posts:
CollyWombles · 14/04/2018 09:47

I've been more tired for a couple of months now. I'm not the best sleeper so this leg aching isn't helping matters.
