To think this mole is bad news?

I have a mole that has trebled in size since I first noticed it in August last year. It's also "puffed" up considerably too. In my head I'm convinced it's melanoma. And a bad fast growing melanoma at that. But has anyone had a fast changing mole that's been ok? Need some reassurance before I go to the doctor on Monday.

See a doctor ASAP, but also, try not to worry! I’ve had two dodgy growths that I convinced myself were skin cancer. One was a collection of burst blood vessels which really looked like a cancerous mole but was harmless. The other time a ‘puffy’ mole turned out to be a very weird wart! It can be a million different things.

Arcadia · 13/04/2018 21:39

I luckily have a neighbour who is a consultant dermatologist. The things I was worried about turned out to be geriatric warts! I wasn't overjoyed by this but it was a relief so don't think the worst but do get it checked out.

ThomasHardyPerennial · 13/04/2018 21:39

It could be a seborrhoeic wart. Absolutely get it checked out by a gp though, if only to put your mind at rest.

Hoohoohelp · 13/04/2018 21:42

Yes I will get it checked on Monday. I have shown it to a GP before who was unconcerned. It's just I noticed it in bath tonight and it's grown loads since then. But hopefully it's just one of those warty things mentioned. Do they grow quickly?

You have noticed a change, so it is the right thing to do to go back again. I had a seborrhoeic wart which grew quickly, puffed up, bled and scabbed over. I have also had skin cancer, so I know how easy it is to worry about these things. You're doing the right thing op Smile.

6triesbuttingout · 13/04/2018 21:54

Agree with Thomas, that happened to me it appeared from nowhere and grew quickly then stopped. This was about 15 years ago. I went to go

( which you must do) which set my mind at rest and never had any probs since so try not to worry but get it checked. Let us know how you get on. Good luck x

ibetyoulookgoodonthedancefloor · 13/04/2018 22:01

Definitely go to gp, try not to worry though. I went 2 years ago as a mole appeared from nowhere on my head and became very painful, dark, swollen and grew quickly and would bleed.

I went with pictures and doctor referred me, by the time an appointment came through it vanished! No mole or Mark left.

Mumto2two · 13/04/2018 22:54

Yes I've had one. On my leg a few years ago. Had it removed and it was benign. My brother has just had one removed, turned out to be basal cell carcinoma, not as dangerous as melanoma, and thankfully was completely localised in the top layer of skin. Don't assume the worst OP, there are many non worrisome possibilities Flowers

Queenio24 · 13/04/2018 22:57

I had a mole which after pregnancy turned black and puffed up, after being completely flat. I was very worried, but when it was removed and tested it was completely harmless and 'warty material' apparently. Try not to worry OP.

Hoohoohelp · 14/04/2018 02:38

Thank you I feel a little calmer now. I'd spent the day researching nodular melanoma which is terifying. Hopefully it's a good sign that mole same shape/ colour and doesn't itch or bleed too.

OP posts:
bluetongue · 14/04/2018 02:47

I too convinced myself I had a nodular melanoma. My growth was dark brown and fast growing. Turned out it was a dermatofibroma which is harmless. Even though the GP assured me it wasn’t dangerous I asked to have it removed. Partly because it was painful at times and partly to put my mind at ease.

moreDetails · 14/04/2018 04:39

You're foolish to look online or ask opinions here as no one with a any medical training will try and diagnose. They'll simply tell you to go the Dr and try not to worry which is exactly what you should do.

I had one dug out of the back of my calf. Sore but not as bad as I imagined.

ThomasHardyPerennial · 14/04/2018 09:09

Op wasn't asking for a diagnosis though moreDetails, just reassurance and replies from people with similar experiences. They don't need a telling off from you.

moreDetails · 14/04/2018 09:18

It wasn't supposed to be a telling off and I apologise HooHoo if that's how it came across.

Good luck.

I'm mostly disappointed that these threads are allowed where they're banned on most sites as no good can come from them. I realise that there are worse 'should I take my newborn to A&E with these frightening] symptoms?' threads but I don't think any of them should be here.

ImFreeToDoWhatIWant · 14/04/2018 09:20

I had what turned out to be a sebborheic (sp?) wart on my calf removed on my actual 40th birthday a couple of years ago. It puffed up and bled like everyone has described in a matter of 3-4 months. Ask your GP to refer you under the cancer protocols, you'll be assessed within 2 wks and booked for removal if necessary within a month. Its almost certainly nothing to worry about but get it checked anyway.

WeAreGerbil · 14/04/2018 09:23

I had one on my face. Wart too. One spray of frozen nitrogen and it was gone in a few days!

Cornflakesonatrain · 14/04/2018 12:59

I had a melanoma a few years ago. It was flat, itchy and the mole had got wider and the edges had gone wavey. Luckily it was contained in the top layer of skin so it was cut out and no further treatment was needed. It's scary when you notice a mole change but you're already doing the best possible thing by getting it checked. Try not to worry, there are lots of other things it could be.

Penfold007 · 14/04/2018 13:12

DH had a couple of fast growing moles on his back. Consultant removed them under local anaesthetic and sent them off to be checked. Got the all clear a couple of weeks later, although consultant did say he wasn't overly concerned. Good luck.
