What do you do in the evening?

DS is now at an age where he sleeps quite well and we have our evenings back to ourselves. The problem is I finally have a few hours me time and I don't know what to do with it.
I want to make the most of this time but just end up watching box sets, and I'm so bored of it.
I like being creative, as in making things, however I have no imagination so struggle to think of what to do. So far I've tried adult colouring books but found it frustrating (I can't keep in the lines). I've tried jewellery making, which I did like but I'm not that good at it and it ended up costing a lot of money.
Aibu in asking what people do in the evening when the kids are asleep just for themselves So I can steal your hobbies until I find one that fits?

Placemarking for ideas.

I'm usually knackered. I sit on my arse an am on my phone or tablet all evening. Total waste of time. I watch some TV, but still on my phone.

I do have some adult colouring and am very neat but I never bother with it. I am planning to make a scrapbook of our holiday sometime so may do some of that.

I've started to read again so I force myself to put the tablet down and go to bed a bit earlier and read. Sometimes I sit with my music on and headphones, I quite like doing that.

Um, list making or researching a holiday if we are going away.

I really need a life tbh.

at the moment - eat the kids leftover easter eggs (about 15 left) then spent 2 hours the following morning running it off whilst cursing myself.

bimbobaggins · 13/04/2018 22:04

I go on mn, tidy up, watch some music videos on YouTube, cry.
I really need a hobby

No kids here but generally knackered in the evenings after work. We eat dinner about 7, clear up, then usually:

Watch the soaps
Read my book
Roam around the internet
Sort out clothes/lunch for the next day at work
Paint my nails a couple of times a week
Chores like laundry

Bed about 11.

Pigletpoglet · 13/04/2018 22:14

I do felting - dry/needle felting is easy to pick up and put down, wet felting needs a couple of hours to make something, but you can do more with it. Loads of videos online to teach you, but if you can find a workshop or something to go to it will get you started. Very easy to teach yourself once you've had a go! I made a couple of bowls this week...

Snog · 13/04/2018 22:16

Cook, go for a walk with dp, life drawing class, go to theatre, watch Netflix whilst drawing mandalas, listen to audio books, plan next holiday or weekend break, make a meal plan for the week with dp...
Or sometimes just slob out with the TV or YouTube!

Rudgie47 · 13/04/2018 22:18

Well what is there to do really? not much until it warms up a bit. In the better weather I go for a ride on my bike during the evening.
At the present I do bit of DIY, discuss things that need to be done next, chat, sit about, play with the cats, read and play on the internet, listen to music etc.
I cant watch the T.V as I think its rubbish.

Crispbutty · 13/04/2018 22:21

MammaTJ · 13/04/2018 22:24

Develop an obsession with Pinterest, then you can spend the evenings pinning stuff you imagine you will make one day, while never getting around to making them!

happytobemrsg · 13/04/2018 22:26

Place marking because I'm looking for ideas. Currently just watch tv whilst reading mn or buying crap online. I tried yoga but 1. It was way too hard & 2. Arranging a weekly babysitter was a big faff (DH never knows what he's doing from one day to the next so kept letting me down at the last minute)

Longdistance · 13/04/2018 22:31

Watch Netflix
Wine
Look at the internet and generally ignore each other 😂
Wine

Jennie maizels sketch book club. Like an easy online art course for colourful quirky illustrations- you pay a fee and download the module.
www.jenniemaizels.com

Or.... eat monster munch while playing words with friends.

Tinkobell · 13/04/2018 22:38

If you're able to, pounce on your DH and get off to bed nice and early with a bottle and a couple of glasses. Once your kids are older and you are taxiing them everywhere to clubs etc .....this luxury sadly will become a distant memory!

Firenight · 13/04/2018 22:39

Most of tonight resettling children.

Otherwise: sewing, crochet, painting, chores.

LizzieDarcy1907 · 13/04/2018 22:42

Spotify and headphones
Baking
Ironing
Walking the dog
Trying to tame the garden and failing miserably
Mumsnet
Helping DH with his paperwork
Catching up with adult DDs and having a natter with a cup of tea

Long soak in bath

73kittycat73 · 13/04/2018 22:57

What's a 'junk journal' MissTeri?

Norugratsatall · 13/04/2018 23:19

What I aspire to do:

Keep journal/diary
Scrapbooking
Crossstitch
Reading
Going for walks
Studying (I'm doing an MA)
Batch cooking
Playing piano
Gardening

What I actually do:

Twatting about on MN or aimlessly watching TV.

WithTwoGiantBoys · 13/04/2018 23:37

Cook dinner. Ferry dcs to activities. Attempt to get them into bed without having to lose my shit. Cook dinner again. Slump, exhausted, in front of the tv. Argue with husband. Resentful silences. Bed.

2018SoFarSoGreat · 13/04/2018 23:58

Ooh Piglet that dry felting looks really interesting (just hopped on over to YouTube to see what it was) indeed. May try that.

I'm gone from 7 til at least 7:15 Monday to Friday, so by the time I change, eat, and do a quick clear up it is around 8:30. That leaves barely time for one Netflix show, snuggled up on the couch with DH, then ready for bed/clothes out for morning, and MN in bed before sleep around 10:30.

When the weather is nice I take a short walk before dinner. Sometimes knit while watching (not snuggling) tv. Used to always read for 30-45 minutes before sleep. Books. Now I just MN, but I feel a bits stalkerish since most of you are already onto the next day :)

MissTeri · 14/04/2018 00:15

73kittycat73 I think different people think of junk journals as different things to be honest, mine is kind of like a smash book or scrapbook. I write in it, I stick cards people have given me in it or pictures my son has made, tickets from trips to the cinema, train tickets, postcards I've been sent. If I'm out and about and I overhear something funny I may write it on a receipt or scrap of paper to remind me and stick it in when I get home. I tend to add envelopes in mine to hold things in. You can really add whatever you want in it.
