Taking the light bulbs from rented flat AIBU?

When I moved into my flat 3 years ago, there were only 1 or 2 lightbulbs in the flat.

I just moved out and as I was taking the lampshades down, I took the bulbs as my new home needs some bulbs and I originally bought these.

The landlord wasn't too happy and mentioned it, but I said that there were hardly any bulbs in the property when I first moved in.

AIBU?

I think it's a bit petty of you tbh.

If the inventory mentions that all the lights have working bulbs then they need to be left. Otherwise it's up to you if you take them.

Sorry but that's really tight! I feel sorry for the poor person who is moving in and has to sit in darkness for the first few nights through no fault of their own. Put them back in and stop being so selfish!

nocake · 13/04/2018 19:30

I should add, we rent out a flat and the inventory says all light bulbs must be working.

dementedpixie · 13/04/2018 19:31

When my sister moved she took the expensive led ones she'd bought and replaced them with cheaper crap ones. She said there weren't many there when she moved in either

Coulddowithanap · 13/04/2018 19:34

I would do what dementedpixie's sister did. Take your bulbs (if they were the expensive led ones) then replace them with cheap ones.

Idontdowindows · 13/04/2018 19:37

Take your bulbs and leave as many as you had on moving in.

Arkestra · 13/04/2018 19:39

Not sure why your landlord expects you to leave more light bulbs than were there when you started the tenancy!

I mean, I wouldn't take bulbs out if it was a matter of 2 or 3 - but it sounds like they are expecting you to supply a house -full of light bulbs?

Iloveacurry · 13/04/2018 19:40

A bit petty, but don’t blame you, think I would do the same. And tell the landlord you’re leaving the property as you found it!

Ansumpasty · 13/04/2018 19:42

I wouldn’t replace bulbs that had gone (ie, go and buy more for the next tennant) but I wouldn’t dream of taking the light bulbs that worked. Well, unless I was on the bones of my arse and couldn’t afford new ones and then light bulbs would be the least of my problems.
Sorry, but you YABU

PrincessLeia80 · 13/04/2018 19:42

Depends on your relationship with your landlord I suppose. We did once look at a house to rent where there were no light bulbs, I think the estate agent got the message when I asked if it would be possible to view at night. Though as the house was missing anything removable including taps and a fitted cooker we were never interested.

CrispyCrackers · 13/04/2018 19:43

I don’t think it’s tight as long as you leave the equivalent of what was there when yo7 moved in. It was tight of the landlord not to have working bulbs when you moved in.

What does it say on the inventory? Some light bulbs are really pricy so I think it’s ok to take them.
