Shit scared - gynaecology oncology referral

First of all, apologies for using AIBU for traffic again but no one ever replies in general health when I post there. This is going to be really long I apologise but please stay with me.

So I have got a letter saying I have an appointment at the one stop gynae oncology clinic next week. I wrote a previous thread about going for a colposcopy but the GP never even mentioned the possibility of a cancer.

I'll give you a bit of history first. I am 18 in a few months and had my little boy 8 months ago. Labour was long, 24 hours, but mostly straightforward. However, during labour one doctor insisted that monitors needed to be placed on my sons head, so wires would obviously have to be inserted through the vagina and cervix. The doctor must have tried about 5 times to get these wires on his head, meanwhile I am screaming and crying because I am in so much pain. She finally manages to get one monitor on his head. I also had an episiotomy.

So in about October/November 2017 I start experiencing really intense stomach cramps during and after sex as well as bleeding after sex. Sex itself is also rather painful as well as other types of foreplay. My periods have got worse each month since then and are very painful and getting quite heavy. I put this down to the implant I had fitted in September 2017.

I went to my GP after Christmas and she sent me for a transvaginal ultrasound. This came back clear although I did bleed after it . She was unable to do a pelvic exam as I was bleeding.

Went back to the GP about a week and a half ago and she was able to conduct the pelvic exam. She explained that the neck of my womb was very inflamed and took swabs. As far as I know she did not do a smear because of my age. GP said that if the swabs came back showing anything she would treat according (there shouldn't be anything like an STI otherwise I would have a dead DP on my hands too). If the swabs were clear she'd send me to the colposcopy clinic to have the inflamed cells removed via laser.

My theory was that, during labour, when the doctor was fighting to get the monitors through my cervix she irritated it, causing the information.

I just feel a bit in the dark to be honest. I don't know whether the test results showed anything or not, my GP surgery haven't contacted me. Have I just been referred to the gynae oncology clinic to find a non cancerous cause as that's where all the gynae doctors are or have the doctors failed to contact me regarding my test results? I'm now just confused and a bit worried about it all. Also what can I expect from my appointment next week?

Is there not a number on the letter that you can call and ask these questions?

Could you not phone your own doctor and asked whats going on. She would obviously received a copy of the referral.

Can you phone your GP and ask for a telephone consultation to discuss your worries?

I suspect the gynae oncology clinic is where they do colposcopies, you haven’t had yours yet right? I expect that’s what it’s for, meaning that your swabs probably came back clear, although you’d hope the GP would have notified you of the results and the referral. I really wouldn’t worry. Most likely it’s something like a cervical erosion (which is completely benign despite the name!) which is common when you’re on hormonal contraception. The chance of a gynae cancer at your age is very slim, although not impossible, but then you’re going to exactly the right place to have it all checked out and for them to treat anything they find.

I would call the practice though and ask to speak to your GP for clarification.

It's very common for women who are having bleeding like yours to be referred to Gynae Oncology and/or Colposcopy. GP likely wants a more experienced eye to look at the cervix. Nine times out of ten, the women who are seen are fine and there isn't a sinister cause.

It's very unlikely the foetal scalp electrode would have caused this as an ongoing issue - you can't put one on through canal of the cervix, there has to be enough of the baby's head to feel to clip one on and the cervix would have to be dilated enough to allow it. I do feel for you, they're buggers to put on.

Hope everything goes ok at the appt
