To think the Royals really aren't normal are they?

Prince Philip has been in hospital since 4th April. Today his daughter went to visit him, the first member of his family to do so since he was admitted, according to the BBC.
I'm sure he is being very well looked after but surely some other relatives could have visited before now?

When my nan goes into hospital she doesn't even tell us! We normally find out 3 or so weeks after discharge. Some people just dont want visitors

StealthPolarBear · 12/04/2018 20:33

They'll have Skyped. Assuming one has unlimited Internet.

blueskyinmarch · 12/04/2018 20:33

I am sure he is a grumpy old bugger who just wants to be alone.

BerkInBag · 12/04/2018 20:33

It's OK OP. They don't need to be physically manifest to communicate with one another they have telepathy and also the ability to use mind control, remotely inhabiting the bodies of nurses and the like to speak to one another if they need to.

StealthPolarBear · 12/04/2018 20:33

I bet harry got his granny's iPad working for her

auntyflonono · 12/04/2018 20:40

Maybe he hasnt been well enough for visitors.

TheScottishPlay · 12/04/2018 22:58

I think Charles and Edward are in Australia at the moment.

AlbertaSimmons · 12/04/2018 23:05

I can assure you from experience that there's nothing remotely normal about Princess Anne Wink.

I have to say OP, when I saw that on the news, it struck me as being odd. As it did the day after the operation when it said something along the lines of "The Queen is at Windsor Castle, being kept informed" or words to that effect.

It's not the same as people saying lots of geriatric people don't get visitors, as lots of people don't have family who could visit. Entirely different. I can't imagine nobody visiting an elderly member of my family for a week - quite frankly even if they were unconscious. It is bizarre.

biscuitraider · 12/04/2018 23:44

Maybe they're glad to get shut of the old grump for a while, but you're right they sure aren't normal.

LeighaJ · 12/04/2018 23:46

Did anyone really think they were normal before this? Hmm

snewsname · 12/04/2018 23:51

How can they be normal? I'd hate it.

SummerGold · 12/04/2018 23:53

@Clandestino He was diagnosis’s with prostate cancer in 2008; it’s not exactly a blind item!!

SummerGold · 12/04/2018 23:53

Diagnosed

SummerGold · 13/04/2018 00:03

THe blind actually says bladder cancer

strawberry1122 · 13/04/2018 00:12

Now you say it yes it is quite funny really Grin

Graphista · 13/04/2018 00:20

Actually as another that's worked in geriatrics it actually is more normal than a lot of the other stuff they get up to.

Plenty of elderly don't get visits from family even if family live nearby, but then I don't judge because you don't know the history. Families are complicated.

Sunnyrain69 · 13/04/2018 00:20

I have been to hospital numerous times and I prefer not to have visitors. It’s so awkward and not in the surroundings I want to see anyone. My last surgery was a major one and I was in hospital for two weeks and would not allow anyone to visit me , not even my husband until he came to fetch me.

I can phone and Skype them when I want and not feel forced to make conversation from a bed when in pain.

I can well believe that Phillip doesn’t want visitors he is probably recuperating in peace.

😂

Rainbowqueeen · 13/04/2018 00:32

I'm sure I've read that the Queen never visits anyone in hospital. She made an exception for Sophie when she was so ill after the birth of Louise and it was remarked upon because it was so unusual.

A PP who said Edward and Charles are in Austtalia at the moment is correct.

So that leaves Andrew and he strikes me as the type who would move an elderly relative into a nursing home and never see them again.

PyongyangKipperbang · 13/04/2018 00:43

Just because it didnt make it to the media doesnt mean that it didnt happen.

Are people really so stupid as to think that it only happened if the BBC said so?

Well, clearly they are Hmm

seventhgonickname · 13/04/2018 00:50

Normal patients after a hip operation would have been discharged home ages ago.

PyongyangKipperbang · 13/04/2018 01:12

Conspiracy theory anyone? Hmm

He is 97, and regardless of his background, he isnt going to follow the same recovery protocol as a 60 year old.

AcrossthePond55 · 13/04/2018 01:29

I seem to recall it being said when he was hospitalized at Christmas that he preferred NOT to have visitors in hospital. I don't recall if it said why.

Families have their own 'ways', royal or not. I figure it's their own business how they relate to each other.
