Dog poo! How to show council the culprit?

SammyRichmond · 12/04/2018 18:16

My neighbourhood is lovely. Well looked after by the council, everybody keeps tidy gardens and there is no litter....BUT - the neighbour lets her 3 dogs poo anywhere and doesn't pick it up. My kids come in with muck on their shoes and it is really winding me up. I cant prove it is her but, it's me and her with dogs on the street and I always pick up after mine. She has 3 wee dogs and its always 3 little poos in groups all over the street. I know her dogs are confined to the garden mostly so her dogs wont have a favourable grassy spot to poo. Instead they do it on pavements etc. I don't want the neighbours to start thinking it is me! I have only been in this house 7 months. Any clever strategies ?

Start with a letter through her door.
"please pick up and bin your dogs' poo. It is disgusting to leave it on the pavement, and footage will be passed to the council if this continues"

Name and shame with posters saying the same on lampposts if it continues, but maybe adding "will the owner of the three dogs who poo everywhere please pick up and bin your dogs poo..."

Nobingstealingisbad1 · 12/04/2018 18:25

I had trouble with dog mess being left outside my house on the pavement, we had to keep removing it.
I contacted the council and told them it was an issue, they came and put up signs and so far it hasn’t happened again. If people feel they are being watched they may not do it.
Failing that try and record her if it happens outside your house?

DairyisClosed · 12/04/2018 18:25

Hey not just record her doing it and pass the footage onto the council?

ChardonnaysPrettySister · 12/04/2018 18:27

Take photo or a video and send it in.

That's not on.

DumbledoresArmy · 12/04/2018 18:27

Report the issue direct to the council. They'll have officers who can investigate

SammyRichmond · 12/04/2018 18:33

It really is disgusting. She lives directly next door too. I am reluctant to contact her directly because of this too. I have thought about contacting the council lots of times but, I know they will letter everyone about it to eliminate harassment claims. It really annoys me. I don't want my kids coming in to contact with faeces, especially animals. I need a cunning plan. We see her out occasionally and she does this looking about tactic when the dogs are pooing but we are in a car and stop to film.

@tenbob That is a good idea! I will probably single myself out as I am the newcomer but it has to end somewhere. I may just make posters myself and put them up at night. If the council letter us all i fear as I am the newcomer, they may think it is me.

Do you have next door.co.uk in your area?

Ours has a lot of name and shame dog poo posts, and they have huge support from the community so you'd have strength in numbers if you innocently posted the same question you've put in this thread on there...

Shizzlestix · 12/04/2018 18:45

Report her to the council, maybe? Tricky without proof.

SammyRichmond · 12/04/2018 18:52

@tenbob
I don't know. It would be great if we did and I will most definitely check tonight. If not that then something similar might be available. Its probably excessive but, she sees me spraying Detol on my grass after mine has done the toilet and questioned me. I do it in the street as well. I told her just because you have picked up doesn't mean you have left a clean space. She probably thinks I am mental lol. I read a blog ages ago about someone who gave their neighbours dog a treat with food colouring capsule inside. Found a colourful poo on the street and reported it to the council and obveously owned up to the mild animal abuse. hhmmn Grin

You spray detail where your dig has pooed? You are bonkers

SammyRichmond · 12/04/2018 19:02

@ginmakesitallok
I don't think so. Its nicer for the kids that use the outdoors as apposed to the adults that don't. I have no issue taking an extra 30 seconds to make sure I have cleaned the area my dog has durtied in. 1g of dog poo has 23 million bacterias that survive on carpets brought in by shoes that have walked on pavement where dogs have pood. I wish it was mandatory for all dog owners tbh. I suppose I am a bit overboard lol. But brainstorm in your mind where all the possible places dog poo can be transferred and how. now that is mental Grin

I think the spraying detol is a great idea, I wish all dog owners would do that!

SammyRichmond · 12/04/2018 19:13

me too @stinksworth
It might not do much but would make a hella lot of a difference if we all did.

tenbob · 12/04/2018 19:59

Err ok that's mad

There are 23 million bacteria in a spoon of yoghurt Confused

Isn't it easier to just take shoes off indoors like most people do, rather than wanting to disinfect the outdoors?

ToadOfSadness · 12/04/2018 20:02

Dettol is poisonous to pets so really not a good idea to spray it around where dogs sniff and get it on paws. Also can kill cats. The killer ingredient is phenol chloroxylenol.

SammyRichmond · 12/04/2018 20:30

Detol is not toxic for dogs. It is on most veterinary websites that if your pets have minor cuts and scrapes to use our own antiseptic solution to clean these. Diluted as I use Detol's antiseptic.
I doubt when you ingest a a gram of yogurt you get a side portion of MRSA, Parvovirus, Hepatitis , hookworms, tapeworms and more. Wish I had the balls to ask visitors and guests to remove shoes when they come in, but i dont feel comfortable doing that.

OP posts:
Blahdyblaah · 12/04/2018 20:40

Sammy don't feel uncomfortable asking people to remove shoes. I make everyone take off shoes, the dog poo around here is absolutely shocking. I would try and record her but if you cant catch her in the act call the council and ask for notices to be put up

PositivelyPERF · 12/04/2018 20:48

Detail is extremely dangerous for cats, OP, even if diluted. It contains phenols and cats can’t eliminate the toxins. They can invest the toxins by simply walking through a wet patch and licking their paws. Please don’t use it.

PositivelyPERF · 12/04/2018 20:52

A lot of cleaning products that are safe for dogs is extremely dangerous for cats. Basically anything that turns water cloudy contains phenols, for example; bleach, wallpaper paste and the most toxic of all, Jeyes fluid. If you’ve ever saw a cat die from phenol poisoning, as I have, you would never use it again.

tenbob · 12/04/2018 21:45

I doubt when you ingest a a gram of yogurt you get a side portion of MRSA, Parvovirus, Hepatitis , hookworms, tapeworms and more

I carry MRSA in my nose and throat, so you'll get that in your house if I sneeze, and very very few healthy dogs will carry paro, hepatitis or worms

You have legitimate grounds for complaint over the dog poo but it also sounds like you have some anxiety over germs which you should probably address.

How difficult it is to ask people to take their shoes off? You say 'oh would you mind slipping your shoes off please?'
You aren't asking to sacrifice their firstborn

He11y · 13/04/2018 08:37

We always pick up after our dog but spraying dettol is a little excessive. Your legitimate concerns may well be dismissed by neighbours if you’re seen as a little bit loopy (sad but true - it happens, especially if you are new to the area) so it might be better not to mention how you disinfect your lawn after your own, presumably healthy, vaccinated and wormed, dog.

As for the dog poo, filming her is the way forward. Does she walk them at regular times?
