We have a big problem with dog shit on pavements and verges on the routes to school round here. The other day a very large woman on a motorbility scooter who regularly walks her dog by mobility scooter let her dog just crap on the road and then just rode on and left it there. I thought there were the poop picking up things that avoid the need for bending down.

OH I HATE IT!!!!!!!!!!! Just pick it up you lazy arsed bastards, you chose to own a dog

Nikki76 · 11/05/2007 23:33

I bloody loathe it!!!

I woulder how dog owners would like it if I pulled my pants down and did a crap for them to walk in???!!

SlightlyMadScarecrow · 11/05/2007 23:36

Is it not illegal to leave dog shit lying around - you can certainly be fined round here.

We still have some but no-where near as bad as it seemed to be as a kid.

handlemecarefully · 11/05/2007 23:36

No you're not being unreasonable - but please don't bore on about it endlessly. It's very dull for the 90% of dog owners who do pick up the shit

MaPickle · 11/05/2007 23:38

yes you're right HMC but the other 10% ... grrr lol

Chandra · 11/05/2007 23:38

"am I unreasonable to thing that if you have a dog you should clean up its shit if when you take it out walking.. "

Yes, you should not even think more about it, there's no way around that, you have a dog you have to clean, it's a fact, no excuses.

handlemecarefully · 11/05/2007 23:41

MaPickle - it annoys you sure, but be certain of one thing it annoys responsible dog owners even more because a minority of their number are 'letting the side down'! My dog does the most disgusting maladorous shits ever[puke emoticon}.

I have to triple bag them to contain the smell , and I get so annoyed that if I can bring myself to pick up after her (struggling to keep my lunch down) why can't others!

MaPickle · 11/05/2007 23:43

I know that one .. I used to walk an elderly neighbours dog and the old dear fed the dog ginger biscuits and chip shop sausages ... dog poo should not be green ...

wheresmysuntan · 12/05/2007 12:09

I agree 'Handle' - we always pick up but always feel that if people see us out near where someone has failed to pick up that they are blaming us. I shouldn't have to feel guilty for other people's failure. I am worried by the anti-dog bias on MN as what I find far more selfish is the attitude of cat owners who seem not to care that their cats are out and about crapping all over other people's gardens.

flightattendant · 12/05/2007 13:11

I'm sorry for people who do take the trouble to clean up after their dogs.
Cats are a bit different, I know sometimes they can be a problem, but iykwim their poo is often less offensive than the dog version, plus they tend to find somewhere out of the way - flowerbeds maybe, but not in the middle of the pavement - and then at least make an attempt to cover it up.
Plus you can't police it as a cat owner, even if you wanted to it's unlikely any cat would let you know where they'd done it, while with dogs the owners know exactly where it is and have the option to clear it up or not.
Someone let their hound do a big one right in our front path a few months ago, I was expecting a visitor but luckily found it in time - and had to clear it up myself.
That was horrible.
(All credit to people who DO clear up! )

wheresmysuntan · 12/05/2007 15:10

The difference is that other people's cats come into MY garden - PRIVATE property. In the main , the dog problem is in PUBLIC spaces.I hate seeing dog poo as much as the next person but if I am out in a public space I expect to have to take care to notice where I am walking. As I do not own a cat, I should not have to watch out for it when walking on my drive or weeding my flowerbeds. Cat poo is extremely toxic ( very dangerous to come into contact with if pregnant) and does not break down easily in the soil.I know it is difficult for the cat owners to police but it is the selfsh attitude I object to. Many people I know who have cats don't give a thought to the fact that their moggie is out crapping anywhere and everywhere. One even said ''Oh, I don't have any problem with my cat - it doesn't poo in my garden'' - no, it poos in everyone elses. But they are the first to moan if they see dog poo on the pavement.

TwirlyN · 12/05/2007 15:18

and wouldn't it be nice to know your child can play safely in your own back garden without stepping/picking up/making mud pies out of someone's cat crap. If only the owners of cats could train their mog to crap in a tray. Then the owner would be a responsible cat owner. (from a dog owner who picks up dog poo)

foxybrown · 12/05/2007 15:22

call or email the council. And tell the owners who walk away to pick it up - its a serious health risk and can cause blindness to a child, can't it?

wheresmysuntan · 12/05/2007 15:26

Yes TwirlyN, and it would also be nice if your kids could wheel their bikes down the gravel drive without getting the spokes gummed up with cat crap - total nightmare to clean off.

Rantum · 12/05/2007 15:29

We have this prob where I live too, and as a dog owner who picks up her dogs shit and doesn't leave home without a bag, it makes me REALLY cross, because it gives all dog owners a bad name.

Also, I have a 2 year old and need to clean up my own garden once or twice a day and regularly hose it down too, as well as clean the pavement when I am walking the dog and it made made me furious the other day when ds was out walking and stood in someone elses dog's crap.

GreebosWhiskers · 12/05/2007 15:33

You can train cats to crap in a tray in the house but they'll still do it in the garden outside. We have a cat & leave a bit of long grass at the very back of the garden where dd doesn't go & he uses that (as do a lot of other cats I've noticed). We did this as we saw him going to do a poo in our neighbours' garden - we managed to catch him in time but figured it was up to us to give him an outdoor loo.

Some dog owners on the other hand are a disgrace. We often have to scrub our buggy wheels & altho' we always watch our feet if there are leaves on the ground it's often invisible 'til you step on it. We have a big patch of grass outside our house (on public land) & a woman once stopped her car (she had kids in the back so assume was on the home from school run), let her dog out to do a crap, let it back in the car & drove off leaving a great steaming turd in the middle of the grass where kids play She did it so fast I didn't have time to get out & say something so had to content myself with yelling from the doorstep.

GreebosWhiskers · 12/05/2007 15:35

Why do some owners bag the poo & then leave the bag lying beside the path? Surely that's just about as bad as not picking it up at all?

Rantum · 12/05/2007 15:45

Good question Greebo - I don't get that at all! BIN THE POO, FOLKS!
