To wonder why people don't strap their kids into cars

Just been driving home on the A40 and passed a guy driving a car with his 3/4-yr old daughter in the back seat sitting on yhe edge of the seat holding onto the passenger seat looking through the gap between the headrest and seat.

Is it just me or was the driver totally nuts to not even use the back seatbelts? It was a 2012 golf so not as if it doesn't have them. I felt so sad for the little girl as although traffic was slow it was still moving.

Is it possible she undid the seat belt herself at all? Just a thought because my own 3 year old DS did this a few months ago when alone in the car with me and the first I knew of it was when his head popped up between the front seats. I may have screamed “what the f**k are you doing?!” (Bad mum I know 🙈) before pulling over and give him a very stern talking to.
If you don’t think that was the case then I don’t know what the driver was thinking.

-Because they aren't going far
-Because they never did when they were little and they survived

  • Because they re excellent drivers who have never had a crash
  • Because the kids kick off when they try to strap them in
  • Because they're in their dad's taxi so they don't have to
-Because they find them uncomfortable so don't wear them themselves

All 'reasons' given by parents and kids when challenged about this at my sisters school gate. Idiot parents.

I read this and thought the same thing as Millie. We were driving down the motorway around a year ago, 3yo safely strapped in his car seat, when all of a sudden I felt a little hand on my shoulder and perky voice trilled "hello!!". Turned my head and there's 3yo, a hand on each headrest and a huge grin on his face, chattering away about how amazing the view is out of the big window and how rubbish the view is from his own window. I shouted at him to sit down, which he ignored, so I had to leave him there until we found somewhere safe to pull over.

My sister was fined for her son taking off his seat belt so could be a reason I suppose.

There are idiots who think they're great drivers and accidents never happen to them. However when my dd was going through the terrible twos, she climbed out of her car seat several times although I would stop as soon as was safe to strap her in again. That was a bloody stressful time of my life.

Went to local shop a few weeks ago and thought the man had a dog in the foot well as he pulled into the space next to me - it was a toddler!!
Words failed me.

DS1 did it once, was told off and never tried it again. DS2 was like Houdini and loved to fuck about with his seatbelts, so much so that I bought a new car seat from France to foil his madness. It worked and ruined his life every time we strapped him into it.

I was on the A40 eastbound on Easter Sunday and saw the same thing along with two other drivers on their mobiles. I have no idea why some people are so flipping stupid.

Feckitall · 11/04/2018 21:34

Ds1s ex does this because DS pulled her up on it...therefore he was 'trying to argue' so now does it to wind him up..Hmm
Meanwhile playing the victim ex..Hmm
Hope to god she never crashes..Angry
