To think Legoland was a load of shite

Have NC'd as I've been complaining to anyone who will listen.

We went to Legoland for the first time a couple of weeks ago. Really looking forward to it, DDs really looking forward to it, loads of recommendations from friends and acquaintances. I was so disappointed. It was overpriced (vastly! £15 for four ‘99’ ice creams), dirty and tired looking, completely disinterested staff. Six of the rides were out of service and one broke while we were on it – not even an apology for that. The train up and down the hill was out of service so smallest DD really struggled with getting back up the hill after 6 hours of walking around the park. Staff in the shop were really rude and completely unhelpful.

Even DDs have said they don’t want to go back again.

I’m probably in the minority as I’ve always seen really positive things said about it on MN but I can’t justify the cost and the experience we did have to ever go back and give it another chance.

I agree it could do with a good spruce up and food is over priced but I think that’s to be expected really.

Why on earth should we be paying an absolute fortune for shit? This is so bloody British! Other countries would never put up with dirt, broken rides and substandard service.

ferrier · 12/04/2018 13:05

We went last year - sadly our last trip as youngest is now 12 - and had as good a time as ever.
We always arrive early and hotfoot it to the most popular rides first. The laser shooter things everywhere have long queues and we try to dissuade dc to go on them- Not usually successfully!
We eat in the eat all you can pizza pasta place where the kids are very happy and it's a reasonable price considering they are Hoover's.
Never had a problem with staff.
Some parts are a little tired but I don't remember more than 1 or 2 rides being out of action which seems better than average for theme parks generally.
Yes it's aimed at younger children so not full of big thrill rides.
And imo, it's way better than Disneyland Paris where the queues were horrendous and we got on about four rides all day.

Tara336 · 12/04/2018 13:29

We loved Legoland when we went but it was fairly new and took DD a couple times. Ques were stupidly long though. Thorpe Park is the one I detest it’s infested with wasps, you don’t need to look for a bin you can smell when your near them, rides were break8ng dI wn all the time, long ques and trying to Charge for extra things to do when you’ve just paid a small fortune to get in. I have flatly refused to set foot in the place again (complained in writing and got a very bland unapologetic reply)

^This x10000

Whenever you point out something outrageously substandard someone comes along as says "oh well, mustn't grumble" Pah!

pigpoglet · 12/04/2018 13:40

I hate legoland , it's dirty and tired and in the summer full of wasps .. they let way too many people in so it's always rammed 🙄🙄... I realise they can't control wasps but it's so so bad. There must be something they can do ..!! Avoid at all costs !

mammmamia · 12/04/2018 17:34

That pizza pasta place is bloody awful as well.
I hope they see this thread.

ferrier · 12/04/2018 17:42

The pizza pasta place is fine.

Pay even more at Disneyland Paris for burger, no tables because of table hoggers, and rubbish everywhere.

SecretBum · 12/04/2018 17:44

We went last year. The dc loved it, especially the swimming/splash section.

I thought it was ok...but I would never pay the entrance prices, they're beyond ridiculous! We went for 2 days and used the Sun vouchers. £30 for two days entry for 4 and £30 for a Premier Inn so £60 all in for two days. There were people paying £60 a head entry on the gate, it's unbelievable.

madeyemoodysmum · 12/04/2018 17:47

I don't like either. Ridiculous queues. Shocking prices for q bot. Wasps out of control in summer.
Over priced everyone uses a voucher
Just charge a fair price in the first place ffs.

Luckily mine are older and want Thorpe park now That has been a lot better.

TheSconeOfStone · 12/04/2018 18:17

We were pleasantly surprised by DLP. Went end of August and was busy but not unbearable. Also whitsun half term which was really quiet.

Did legoland on a rainy Non-pupil one October. Had free child ticket voucher so paid at the gate. Waited an hour just to get in and so few booths were open. Queues of 40-50 minutes for rides and an hour to get out of the car park at the end of the day. Never. Again. We caved and bought Q- bots as we knew we were never going again and live in Devon do had to salvage the day.

headintheproverbial · 12/04/2018 18:18

We love it!

frankchickens · 12/04/2018 18:21

Pay even more at Disneyland Paris for burger, no tables because of table hoggers, and rubbish everywhere
Great wahtaboutery!

I agree - I have been to both and they were both a spectacular rip-off - however Disney wasn't anywhere like as shabby and overcrowded.

italiancortado · 12/04/2018 19:07

Pay even more at Disneyland Paris for burger, no tables because of table hoggers, and rubbish everywhere.

That's the people not the place.

There is no comparison between DLP and Legoland. Legoland is 100% shit hole. It looks like it's not seen any maintenance in at least 15 years. Awful place.

Rachie1986 · 12/04/2018 19:23

We quite like it. I'm obviously on the minority!

Wouldn't go in holidays mind, we're close enough to go on term time for an afternoon.

mammmamia · 12/04/2018 22:15

Totally agree DLP may be overpriced but there’s no comparison with the shithole that is Legoland

Sammy901 · 12/04/2018 22:49

UserInfinityplus1- iv never paid an absolute fortune to get into the bloody place to start with! 2 days and 1 night in a hotel for £140 including a full English breakfast and free parking is not what I class a bloody fortune!

frankchickens - where did I say don’t grumble for fuck sake. I said my kids like it! It could do with a lick of paint in some places and yea the food is over priced like every theme park in the uk! So yes I do expect the food to be over priced!! .. I don’t think the place is dirty any of the times iv been! The staff have been constantly emptying the bins and polite when asked questions! Some people like it and others don’t.

If you don’t like it then don’t go. My kids have always enjoyed it and it’s been a good day out.

frankchickens · 12/04/2018 23:00

Where did I say I don’t grumble?

This -

I agree it could do with a good spruce up and food is over priced but I think that’s to be expected really

frankchickens · 12/04/2018 23:01

So yes I do expect the food to be over priced!!

Why? Because you want to give away as much money as you can to undeserving causes?

sdaisy26 · 12/04/2018 23:09

It is very expensive, very busy and very tired. Also surprisingly little to do for toddlers / pre-schoolers.

Paultons is a million times better - they really focus on its upkeep and except in the summer holidays you hardly ever have to queue out of the peppa pig bit.

ColourfulOrangex · 13/04/2018 08:28

Oh we are looking at going here in a couple of months, bit worried my son and niece won't like it now Confused

Bodicea · 13/04/2018 08:43

Never been. But seen a lot of negativity on here so don’t think will bother.
Luckily we have legoland discovery centre at the Trafford centre near us and bought annual passes for that this year ( long with their mini sealife centre) . That will hopefully sate my Lego obsessed sons appetite.
It’s far cheaper and there are just three indoor rides and a cinema experience but my sons spends ages making Lego cars and chucking them down the car ramps - and we can have a nice lunch in the Trafford centre and nip into the sealife centre at the end of the day for an hour. Much more agreeable.

Hohofortherobbers · 13/04/2018 09:10

Another vote for gullivers land Milton Keynes. Great value gif money, no queues and little kids can go on everything. There is an attraction, ride or play area at every step. We've been twice, picnic each time. 2nd visit we booked a stay and play, overnight in a little beach hut on site where we had a bbq, included entry to the theme park park, splash zone and dinosaur world for 2 days and entertainment in the evening. £169 all in for 4 of us. Great value. My dc age 6 and 4 still think it was the best weekend of their lives.

AnnPerkins · 13/04/2018 10:01

We have been to Gullivers MK quite a lot because we live nearby. There are height restrictions on some rides and there's not much open space for picnics. It is pretty cheap for a kiddies' theme park though.

For that sort of local day out I much prefer Wicksteed Park. It is very small scale but there's loads of parkland for picnics, BBQs and cricket matches, and a boating lake, bar and campsite. Best of all, adults who don't want to go on any rides don't have to pay!

Sammy901 · 13/04/2018 10:13

frankchickens - that’s not me grumbling..that’s my opinion. I’m happy with the place, your the one moaning about it, Just don’t go.

I expect it to be overpriced because it’s a theme park!! For god sake! There all over priced! So yes when I go I expect the food to cost more.

And it’s my money so il spend it as I wish even if I want to give it to ‘undeserving causes’ because as far as I’m concerned if my kids have had a good day then it’s going towards a good cause.

LoveManyTrustfew · 13/04/2018 10:52

DS is 17 now and we haven't been for years, when we went it had only been open about eight years, it opened in 1996 so is coming up for 22 years old.

By the sounds of it to use one of our favourite expressions in this house.... it is not so much tired as exhausted. Grin
