Please could I have a hand hold? Lump in breast, in GP waiting room

I’m 40, found at least one lump in my breast, maybe more. I’m waiting to go in, I’ve got my 21month old dd with me (not ideal but couldn’t get childcare) and I’m trying not to think the worst but I’m so scared.

Lots and lots of luck.

The GP should refer you to a breast clinic so remember you probably won't get an answer today. Also remember 90% of lumps are benign - I had to go for a check when I had DD and that poster on the wall of the clinic helped me to breathe.

🤞🏻🤞🏻🤞🏻

Thinking of you OP - this has happened to my mum and my best friend. In both cases it was nothing to worry about Flowers

But you are doing the right thing in getting checked out.

TwitterQueen1 · 11/04/2018 09:12

handhold here.

The likelihood is that it is some form of benign lump but doctors don't take any chances and may well refer you onto to the 2 week diagnosis path (sorry, not a breast cancer specialist). Don't panic if they do this (easier said than done), obviously everyone will want to rule out anything nasty. Worst case scenario - BC is VERY treatable.

SaucyJane · 11/04/2018 09:12

Here's a link to a clinic saying it if that helps; I misquoted slightly - 90% of referrals to breast clinics are benign.

Be proud of yourself for making that appointment, you're being really brave Flowers

Idontdowindows · 11/04/2018 09:15

If you found several, it may well be mastopathy. The first time you find one it's quite harrowing. My GP still sends me for a mammogram every time, but it's lumpy breast tissue that goes through a cycle.

Most lumps are either benign or part of the normal changes as you age, so I'll sit there with you and hold your hand, been there :)

Tea and biscuits for now. Not going to tell you not to worry, because you will anyway. Flowers

QueenOfAccidentalDeathStares · 11/04/2018 09:15

handhold here Flowers

you are getting more information. you are taking control of the situation. you are strong.

Cloudsclouds · 11/04/2018 09:36

Thank you so much, you’re all so kind. The GP thought it was’normal’ lumpy tissue and isn’t referring me. So I guess I should stop worrying? Obviously will continue to check myself and go back if anything feels wrong. Thank you again (and sorry for making a fuss about nothing)

That's great news, OP! Don't be sorry. GP has told my mum her lump is normal but we're still terrified until she gets it removed.

Idontdowindows · 11/04/2018 10:59

That's great news Clouds and yes, lumpy tissue can be a fright, but is quite normal. You're at the age that you'd start seeing it too, so stop fiddling about with your breast, mark the calendar one month from today and then check again. You may find your breast tissue changing quite a bit over the coming years and if you check too often you're just going to get jittery. :)

Orchidflower1 · 11/04/2018 11:00

Glad everything ok x

Gilead · 11/04/2018 11:00

Good news, Clouds. Many, many women have lumpy breasts naturally. Be kind to yourself, take a deep breath and get yourself a cuppa and a cake. Flowers

MorningsEleven · 11/04/2018 17:53

Good lass, you did it. I used to work in Primary Care and GPs really know what's benign and what isn't, please be reassured by this great news 🥂

ifIwasinvisiblewaitIalreadyam · 11/04/2018 18:10

If you are worried go back. My Aunty at first had a rash on her breast that the GP dismissed for 18 months. Then she found a lump, both symptoms turned out to be breast cancer. If she hadn't have gotten diagnosed when she did then she wouldn't have been here within 12 months. I don't want to scare you but just to say trust your instincts and if you are still worried do something about it. X

Pengggwn · 11/04/2018 18:32

I'm glad everything seems okay, OP. Did the doctor say to return if X or Y? Perhaps book a follow up if they didn't give you enough information.

Lynnm63 · 11/04/2018 19:01

You weren’t making a fuss over nothing. Much better to “waste” GP time now than leave it and it be a fast growing cancer.

Anewhope · 11/04/2018 19:08

I had a benign lump removed when I was 21ish. It's terrifying. Check yourself at different times in your cycle and in different positions too (ie when standing, when lying down) as some can be tricky! Im glad the DR thought all was ok in this case OP. Flowers

RoseWhiteTips · 11/04/2018 19:19

Good news, OP. Flowers
