To think that the triage on 999 is too simplistic?

YABU.
When dd was 5 and needed to call an ambulance for DH it needed to be simplistic so she could understand.
What do you think they should do instead? Complicate it so children, people with learning disabilities and panicked adults are unable to get help?

What Original said ^^
If we don't ask about bleeding, you can guarantee someone wouldn't mention the pints of blood spurting out of a patient
"Well they never asked about blood..."
It's designed to spot emergencies quickly, it's not a GP line and when you have 4000 calls in 24hrs, it has to be quick

Look, I don't know about you, but there have been times when I've called 999 and am panicking. I don't know what's wrong, I just know it's urgent.
Having "simplistic questions" is sensible. I could just about concentrate enough to give sensible answers. if you start asking more complicated ones you'd probably get answers that had no relation to the question.

There are times when I've phoned calmly, and then I could cope with harder questions, but the operator isn't to know that.
It was a good things that it was one of those times that it took three times to get connected as they had "unprecedented number of calls" followed by being told there was a 2 hour wait for an ambulance. (suspected stroke but conscious) otherwise I think my response would have been interesting.
