Please help the clueless navigate London!!?

So my DF and DM have just gotten to London as they have some work nearby.

They're originally from another EU country and although they've lived here for quite a few years never had a chance to see London until now.
The problem is they are clueless and didn't organise anything, DF knows what he wants to do/where he wants to go but doesn't know how, DM just waits for him to sort it.
I've just had a phone call from a slightly concerned DF (probably behind my DMs back as he wont admit he doesn't know Grin) asking if I can find out how they can get from their hotel via public transport to Westminster to see Big Ben.

I've tried looking at fares online but it's asking about underground zones etc and TBH I don't know what I'm looking at Blush

So I need to figure out how to get from Luton airport (near their hotel) to Westminster and more or less how much it would cost.

Please help?

Apparently, it is. Blush

They need to get a train from Luton to Kings Cross which will necessitate a ticket

Then using their cash cards they can navigate the tube from Kings Cross to Westminster , best to use the TFL app . Tell them to NOT get a W day travel cards as their inter London tube travel will be capped (about £7)

If they leave Luton after 9 and leave central London by 330 they will miss the worst traffic

Warn them about queues for the abbey too.
I went the other day and it was 90 minutes queuing outside to get in so I didn't bother. Might be some times of the day that are better.

And yes to Big Ben being covered in scaffolding!

Could they afford a b & b or hotel actually IN London for a night or two so they can explore properly without starting out from Luton?

ButFirstTea · 11/04/2018 10:20

You can't really see the Elizabeth Tower that well at the minute due to the scaffolding, but the rest of the Houses of Parliament and other Westminster buildings are lovely, so if they manage to get there tell them not to be too disappointed!

I can't believe some of the rubbish help on this thread, not just your dp who are clueless.

MsHomeSlice · 11/04/2018 15:14

nothing helpful to add at all then fionflorist ? Hmm

You don’t need an Oyster card ! I also think the West Hampstead link (good catch) might be too tricky for two hapless tourists ?

PerfectlySymmetricalButtocks · 13/04/2018 16:53

You do if you don't have contactless. My bank hasn't seen fit to send me a contactless card yet. Hmm to my bank.

Another recommendation for the
citymapper app. Put in where you are and where you want to go and bam it gives you all the options and tracks as you travel there
