I need to get Travel insurance for an extreme sport,
But cant find one that covers health condition with a extreme sport one
so was thinking to get health covered by one insurance company
and the extreme sport by another company???

AIBU to do this??? can i have two insurances though the only one i am likely to use is the health cover one? for pre exisiting conditions?

Wouldn’t you still have to declare the sports/health to each company? Not doing so would invalidate the insurance. Apologies if I have misunderstood.

Are you doing this on the internet? Have you tried calling up one of the companies that specialise in health risks travel insurance and asking anout the sport.

I spoken to some companies they stance on it would be to cover all other illnesses but not the one that's coming up that's refusing the insurance, typical psychological condition which has been stable 23+ months now.

A friend works for one of these and everything but that condition would be covered. - any psychological conditions, including stress, anxiety, depression, eating disorders or mental instability(no cover can be given for this) she feels they would cover the physical illness.

You need one policy: health insurance that covers the extreme sport, in case you get injured during it. You need to read the small print very carefully - eg. some insurance which covers mountain biking , will only cover up to X thousand feet.Insurance covering diving, it will only be to a certain depth.

Pre-existing conditions can be difficult. Sometimes it's possible to exclude them from the cover-up eg no medical cover for any depression or psychological issues, or medical need arising from them. If you are really pretty sure the condition won't be a problem, that would be an ok risk for you to take. Any problems arising from that declared condition, you're on your own. Any thing not connected, eg appendicitis, or a sport accident, you're covered.

Top dog used to be good for extreme sports. That was a few years ago.

But don't assume pre-existing conditions can't be covered.
Companies have different rules. What one company can decline, is sometimes covered by another.
Ring several up.Answer their questions honestly.

So basically if i informed i have PCOS to company so was pre existing and i had cyst would be covered.

so i wouldn't declare/inform the insurance company about Mental health one, so therefore no treatment given, though the chances of that happening is 1% tbh. im more likely to need medical for PCOS.

I would suggest you contact specialist insurers for quotes, hazardous sports will of course be more expensive to cover, pre existing illness usually requires an uplift in premium too.

I wouldn’t recommend two separate policies, I think you may encounter problems if you need to make a claim.

I have a chronic illness and I have never found the premiums too expensive for European cover to cover my pre-existing illness.

As a pp said read the policy and make sure you are covered for the sport, I used to work in this field, for an example winter sports can cover skiing but NOT snowboarding etc, take care to make sure you are properly covered.

Have a lovely injury free trip OP Flowers

Not declaring a condition can invalidate the whole policy. You can declare it but not have that condition covered

Can the storm chasing company recommend a company?

reallybadidea · 10/04/2018 18:08

This place appears to do top-up insurance that just covers you for the extreme sport. www.sportscoverdirect.com/insurance/extreme-sports/#activity-topup-insurance Something like this might be your safest bet, otherwise maybe speak to an insurance broker. I think what you're proposing should be fine, but it might be a hassle in the event of a claim if they disputed it.

Glumglowworm · 10/04/2018 18:16

Insurance companies will clutch at any straw that may get them out of paying, so I would advise declaring everything honestly. You don’t want them refusing to cover medical treatment for condition A because you didn’t disclose unrelated condition B. Which they may well do as you’d be in breach of their terms by failing to disclose something even though it’s not related to your claim.

PollyPofter · 10/04/2018 18:38

The company they recommended refused my claim!

Have you tried Columbus, possibly with the adventure pack add on for the sports element? Sorry, no idea on the health aspect.
