To think she’s a bloody hypocrite?

One of my friends claims to be very anti-greyhound racing, she’s constantly sharing ‘You bet, they die’ type posts on Facebook. Only it seems that racing is the only form of animal exploitation that she seems remotely bothered about. She’s one of these Facebook oversharers, so is often posting photos of meal ingredients that her and her DC are going to make/do. She uses supermarket value mince, battery eggs etc. Whenever she takes her DC to the seaside they have donkey rides and she’s on holiday at the moment and posting photos of a sea lion (who is kept in a tiny tank in a theme park) doing a show, and her DC posing with said sea lion.

It’s not just me, is it? She’s a massive hypocrite?

Illustrious you said you don't give a flying fuck about any as long as they taste nice. Hate that kind of clever-to-be-unpleasant bravado. Nobody thinks it's clever. Feel sorry for any dog you 'love'.

OP, she cares about one thing, better than not caring at all. You could say the same of anyone who has one cause but doesn't embrace all of them. 'He cares about children with cancer, what about children with TB? The bastard.'

The dairy industry is fucking brutal!!

People often pick a couple of causes that they are really passionate about and want to fight for. It doesn't mean they don't care about other things and that they are hypocrites for not fighting equally for them, it just means that those causes are the ones they are most drawn to. That's all.

People have charoties or causes that are particularly dear to them for a variety of reasons. It doesn't mean they don't care about anything else. If I gave money to a breast cancer charity and plugged it on FB it wouldn't mean that I thought that people with other cancers were unimportant!

I think donkey rides are a bit cruel and unnecessary and
I am against greyhound racing (and all use of animals for sport/entertainment generally).

I think that like most things in life, there are too many shades of grey to make a blanket statement like this.

I know someone who owns a trail riding business. Her horses are really well looked after, only taken out three days per week, and graze the rest of the days. When retired they live out their days in her paddocks. She is very different from someone who makes their animals work everyday of the week and only gives them basic care for as long as they are useful.

I am about to spend the next five days at a National competition for dog sports. People have travelled from all over the country, and their dogs are absolutely pampered. The dogs enjoy what they do, you couldn't be successful if they didn't. All the talk is about positive motivation and the budget of a small country has already been spent at the big dog toy stand. Compare that to a trainer who mistreats their animals, puts them down if they don't win. One should be stopped, the others are doing nothing wrong by participating in their sport.

MidniteScribbler I knew a woman who had a riding school but didn't like people, particularly children. She consequently had very few pupils. When you went out to the field to catch a horse they all came running up trying to get picked.

Here in Mexico they banned animals in circuses and as a result most of those animals are now dead. I don't agree with wild animals being kept in cages, but have no problem with domestic working animals, including elephants, being used, as long as there are proper regulations on their treatment and inspectors to enforce them.
